Calling this one done. Eduard profipack version of Gallands machine circa 1940. i just noticed, after taking the photos that I've got the wrong spinner on> Ah well, if I get the energy I'll pull it off and replace it. Apologies to all the 109 experts out there

  2. Last run before the finish line The top surfaces were not as weathered as the under fuselage white and getting some grey paint for corrosion control on the top fuselage was way too subtle to my liking, so I needed some more smoke paint. Out came again the scratching effect and the tamiya smoke colour, but not before a safeguard alclad gloss coat The tamiya smoke was scratched with the old brush or various sponges to vary the effects. it's very visible on the picture , more sublte on the model (due to contrast at post production) Then the base grey was applied again as corrosion control The inner intakes were weathered by the same technique, and I destroyed the homemade decal red corner doing so ! And the fuselage behing the cockpit as well, albeit with more corrosion control subtle touch ups All 4 wing bags are attached and the heavy D-704 as well. That extra weight really doesn't help the supporting pole. The model ended up very heavy Final shot for today is the canopy. It's always a great achievment when the masking tape are removed from the canopy and you discover the crew inside. It's one of these special moment, usually marking the end of the project ... But before calling it done, I have to do some engineering on the stand for the 2 models - and get my distances right And of course scratching that drogue ...

    1/32 Marauder

Hi Jason , from my little experience with this printer so far, I would say yes. The printing area is relatively small (115 x 65 x 155 mm). But that's no big problem. If the parts are to large, the 3d-models could be devided into smaler segments. Here is a improved rear section of the Marauder (with openings for upper windows). The surface was just slightly sanded, and then got a coat of aluminium. Looks pretty nice. With this printer, interior fuselage frames can be printed as part of the main part, and they tourned out pretty sharp I started with the tiny signal bombs, also printed with my new machine (just a bit more than 1 cm long): Cheers Alex

  4. The weapons bays are ready. Weapons bay doors installed. My good friend Thomas has machined some beautiful tie down hooks for me. Each one is made of two parts, the bases have precise drillings to simulate screw detail: Glued in place: Antennae, also machined by Thomas: And a bit of fun to keep motivation high... I love Reedoak figures!

got a lot done yesterday! after a long day at the airshow: https://www.flickr.com/photos/shawnmanny/collections/72157699186674312/ Followed by a late night at a charity concert, I sat down to get some work done. New wing tip light in the raw: And done: Landing light all smoothed in and polished up ugh... big smudge but I polished it out and it looks great! Re-added the control yoke Masked up the canopy inside and out (just set here for looks) and masked the landing light After that was all done I went through and trimmed off and cleaned up all the remaining parts for the build! I have a HUGE set of parts ready to prime tonight

  8. Hi everyone, I'm loving taking time off work for modelling. I got the engines in yesterday. There are no locator pins for the engines. They sit on a couple of raised ridges, but I wasn't sure of their placement. One thing I really hate is when I go to put on the spinner and it's not aligned properly. Thanks for looking! Gaz

  9. Time for an update. Major milestone this week-end: after lots of prep work, I was able to glue the canopy on and the forward pylon. Still some seam clean-up to do, but it is really taking shape now. Lots of bits and bobs to install on the fuselage once the seam sanding is fully done. Some pictures: inside the canopy, will not really be seen but I know it’s there pilots installed canopy installed overall shot, this bird is massive Cheers, David

  10. Pouring down outside so a good reason for bench time! I'm trying to get my head around the front cockpit area, roll bars etc. The top curved part of the roll bar is provided in resin, I add the vertical parts - job done. There's also a scratch-built frame to be located behind the roll bar, 16mm wide in the instructions - done. But the 3.5mm forward projecting parts which will join the frame to the roll bar are too far apart if built perpendicular to the frame so I guess they need to be angled in by 1mm each: Then arises the question in this increasingly complicated scenario of one item fitting to another; how high is the roll bar? The photograph of the real thing provided the answer, and the key part as far as the modeller is concerned is the internal frame by the Bordfunker position, because the top of the roll bar has a couple of (scratch built) extensions which run aft to join the internal frame: Once the roll bar height is determined in relationship to this frame, the pilot's armour plate, the Revi gunsight and the two vertical bars can be worked out. Andy's pictures and guidance have been invaluable, he's done such a splendid job as a "pathfinder" with his build.

  11. No clue. The whole WNW lovefest is starting to jump the shark. The constant wishlists and guessing, fawning over everything they make, and trying to divine their next releases over a picture, comment, or any minor scrap of information is just getting to be too much. I love their stuff and have a ton of it, but I’m giving up trying to figure out what they might release next. When they announce a new kit, I’ll decide whether it’s something I want, and if it is I’ll look forward to it and not be disappointed it’s not something else.

  13. Many thanks! Let’s see if I can get this to work! Puffer duct before Cut out built up with an old drop tank and some strip the ejection seat was to narrow and far to short sitting almost under the line of the canopy, Ive widened it and added some detail, its more artistic licence but close to the real thing. Will look good painted this image is to show the proportions I’m aiming for this is the beginning of the rear bulkhead the bulkhead with some added detail pre priming and after needs some clean up but again will come together with some painting thats all the images I have until I return home then I can share the huge amount of work required on the wing reshape. It will be worth the hard work in the end I’m sure of it!

  16. Postie has just delivered the Naval Fighters book on the Privateer I ordered - and it's superb! A lot of detail in there - well worth acquiring if you like Privateers! Not much on the French Aeronaval airframes - but superb coverage of the airframe and operations with the US Navy. This is one of the most comprehensive Naval Fighters books I've seen at 240 pages and the best reference on this aeroplane I've seen... Iain

  17. Hi all! I had problems aligning the front of both fuselage sections to glue on the other half of the ring I made yesterday. The modifications on one half only made precise fitting impossible so I decided to modify the second half instead of working on the intake. This went quickly and it is almost done. I am looking into the MF fairing to see was is wrong with it. At first look, it seems like it is the fuselage shape that is too tall, and this reduces the height of the fairing by an equivalent amount. More details to come... Alain

  19. Hi guys I’m new to the forum and have never shared my work online. After seeing the lack of builds online for this model I thought I too would share my work. I will try my best to live up to the great work posted on this forum. To that end I’d like to share my progress so far on this great 1/18 harrier kit. The kit kit is massively out of proportion in many areas. But due to its size I think the main area of focus for anyone who sees it in person will be the cockpit. (It’s too large to be picked up when finished!) here are my progress pics so far. I have completed the nose puffer duct and started the mamoth task that is the cockpit. And reshaping the wings!

  21. I find myself pretty excited to try this so here we go. To set the scope, I'm looking at doing a largely external conversion for the upcoming Hobbyboss B-24D kit. I'm not planning (yet) on attempting many of the interior changes like the re-arrangement of the flight deck. That said, the following is my initial list of things that need to happen to convert a model of a B-24D into a model of a PB4Y-2 Privateer. Note that this list is what I consider to be relevant to a modeler, not necessarily an exhaustive list of airframe changes. Most of this is from the Ginter book which has been an invaluable resource. In rough order of importance to visual impact: 1. New tail unit - 15% 2. ERCO spherical nose turret - 45% 3. ERCO waist blisters 4. Second Martin top turret 5. New engine nacelles (not just a simple 90 degree rotation) - 10% 6. Forward fuselage extension 7. Retractable search radar under fwd fuselage 8. Large number of antennas all over the airframe 9. Astrodome moved 10. Air-scoop on upper fuselage 11. Needle blade props 12. A large number of panel line changes especially escape hatches and the whole rear fuselage 13. New aileron tabs 14. New instrument panel The ultimate goal here is a comprehensive, external, and marketable conversion set for the Hobbyboss B-24D kit (yes the D kit though the J might also work) using 3D printed parts. I like going the 3D printed route because I can be very precise, detailed, and accurate without having to be very skilled at actually crafting anything. Now, the great disclaimer: I work very slowly and am easily distracted. I need some level of accountability here. I'll try to post something here weekly but I'm not great at this. Don't let me get away with it if I'm not keeping this moving. I've only got 14 things to do. Shouldn't be that difficult to stay on task. First update is due tonight. Should have the ERCO nose turret exterior ready to go.

  22. HI Everyone, Hot on the heels of my Tamiya Panther, I've moved on to one of Meng's 1/48 Me-410 offerings. There are three versions available, one is a bomber, whilst the other two are bomber busters... one of which carries a 50mm cannon. Here is the box art: For me, this is a completely new air-frame. I've never built a Me-410 before, so it's fun to deal with new shapes and learn details that I haven't been rehashing for years. The kit has known inaccuracies, and I'm not going to put too much effort into fixing them. If I can do it with a few swipes of sand paper, I'll do it. But otherwise I'm staying OOB. The kit has nice PE belts but sadly no IP decals. Here are some progress shots: After Painting the cockpit a scale-lightened version of RLM 66, I used a wet pallet and acrylic tube paints to do the details. This gave me a lot of quick flexibility in colors without having to open and close bottles of paint. I learned the wet pallet technique at my clubs meeting last weekend. I add-libbed some of the colors if I couldn't see them in any of the available photos. Next up is closing the fuselage. Thanks for looking! Gaz

  24. Tricky part of the build this Max, loved every moment of it as well! Interested to see how you build this area up as there is an aweful lot going. I dedided on making sure everything was bonded together as one assembly for added strength but the pay off was some really tricky painting!. Also Max. I've noticed after the event (as always) that John supplies lots of lovely decals/ stencils for the radio sets which I wish I noticed at the beginning of the build but never mind, to late now! Looking really good Max and enjoying each of your updates. Regards. Andy

  26. Hi all, Well with a bit of cutting, gouging, static grass, sharp sand, small stones and twigs, the 'Coastal Kits' display mat is done. Hopefully it adds a touch of '3D' to the otherwise flat mat. I just have to mount the model etc and it's done. Mike

  27. Total incompetence by the USAF. F-22's are an irreplaceable national asset. Once one is destroyed, it won't be replaced. They never should have been left behind in sheet metal hangars while a CAT 5 storm leveled that base. If nothing else, the AF should have had the basic foresight to build a few hardened aircraft shelters to adequately protect any non-flyable aircraft in the event a storm approached (I believe a typical HAS costs a small fraction of what they paid for an F-22) but foresight and US military don't go well together. And no, buying some extra F-35's isn't the solution. The F-22 has a totally different mission. Juggernut - lighten up a bit bud. Anyone can chime on any subject. It's a modeling website....

I have tried the Phrozen ABS like grey and I'm very happy with the results so far. It's a bit cheaper than the Anycubic resin, too. I think this will be my resin of choice from now on.

Not likely to make anyone jealous, but my roommate just gave me this, two complete kits in one box, both older Hasegawa kits, the D-9 and Bf 109E. I'll probably see if I can trade these off, or sell them, then use the cash towards a new tool D-9.

The material called PLA for normal FDM printers is proplematic. I experienced how a printed part was totally warped after laying in direct sunlight for some hours on a hot summer day. But I have no clue how the resin used with DLP printers behaves. I made some progress on the interior walls at the waist gunner area:

  42. Hi ! A-10 ... That’s right , I always try to make a good research, mainly by the small details like, correct wheel hubs, in the case of the Tomcats, we have three types. correct bombs and missile configurations or what is shown in the research pictures. in some cases, reproduce the painting pattern exactly as the reference picture shows (in this case it is difficult because we do not have a walkaround of all planes or all squadrons) so sometimes we have to use imagination or intuition to reproduce a model making them realistic, helmet models for each correct jet in the right time .. things like that ... and at final some good pictures(not the case of this final pictures of my model , I haven’t a good light set to make this shoots ), good angles to take this pics with a correct background .. Thanks for enjoying my work / fun.

Many thanks I spent the whole weekend working towards the goal of closing the canopy So first thing was finishing painting the pilots in their desert storm suits and mating them to the seats Looks like VA-35 pilots had these chocolate chips flight suits Worked a bit more on their office, And step them inside: Then tidying up some wires, gluing Hud glass, handles, mirrors and correcting a few touch of paint here and there and I'll be ready to close 524 up

  49. The vac form windows have arrived together with the Chinook stencils, so I gave it a go I chain drilled all the windows The Radu micro saw to cut out the windows then diamond files to clean everything then dry fitted to the fuselage and more sanding to make it comform as much as possible to the fuselage, will save time later on. then painted the interior and exterior of the nose in Tamiya NATO Black. I will let it cure overnight and then the hard part, fitting the vac form windows. That being said I am happy with my progress, the fit of the nose is actually very good and I manage to cut the windows and all the sanding with braking any of the frames. Hopefully the vac windows will allow me to get a much more realistic look not on’y In terms of transparency but also the aspect of the windows which smoothly blend into the fuselage as seen on this pic More progress soon. cheers, David
