vince14
I had a chat with Bryan Wall (WNW Product Designer) at Telford today, and he told me that after the Lanc WNW are sticking exclusively with WWI subjects. The Lanc is very much a pet project for Peter Jackson, but the amount of effort needed to produce the more complex WWII aircraft to WNW's standards means they won't be doing any more in future. Richard Alexander was standing right beside him when he told me, and he didn't contradict Bryan...so I'm afraid those WNW wishlists are going to have to be purely WWI subjects from now on. D.B. AlanG
Nothing like shooting themselves in the foot is there? But i suppose that's what you get when you get someone running a company that doesn't care about the whole model market and only does kits for personal gratification. cbk57
I don't find this to be a surprise. While we may wish for something else, WNW has always been pretty clear they are a WWI specialist. I don't feel like they owe anything regarding the rest of the market. R Palimaka, The Dude, esarmstrong and 2 others
Fred Jack
Personally, I was upset about WnWs going into the WW2 business. They are the only company making multi seat WW1 planes. There are lots of companies making WW2 planes, but far too few making WW1 planes. Rick Griewski

How long will they stick with *strictly* WWI and not branch out in to later biplanes or other between the wars stuff? If they did stuff like USN and USAAC stuff from the yellow wings era they'd clean up. I can only speak for myself but my interest in "between the wars" anything is pretty much zero. They have a near infinite supply of WWI subjects to choose, and the company's motive for existing is not to get rich. So I'll go out on a limb and say they continue to pump out WWI subjects indefinitely. CATCplSlade and Fred Jack

It's been very clear from the beginning that they specialize in First World War aircraft. I also thought it was finally understood that the Lancaster was a happy anomaly because of Mr. Jackson's personal interest and pursuit of his own film/television series dealing with the Dambusters. Once the Lancaster news was released though many people projected their own interests into what WNW should or shouldn't pursue...more Second World War aircraft, between-the-wars, and racers, etc. They don't owe modellers anything. The idea that they are there to serve us somehow is odd. It's his company, and they're doing quite well I'm sure with what they are producing. And it sounds like there are more interesting subjects to come. I’m sure not everyone agrees with it. No model company “owes” the market anything. I’m sure WNW will do just fine, even without making WW2 stuff. Happy for those that do. PJ strayed into WWII to boost his own ego and give other modellers hope. Guess we should know by now that it was always going to be a false hope. Could i ever afford the Lancaster? No. But i can admire the quality. I just think that dipping a toe outside of WWI and seeing the interest it caused would make good business to continue. But hey. I suppose if you've got millions in the bank then it's easy not to give a stuff about markets.
monthebiff
Dont believe a word of it, WnW have a great track record of not leaking anything about possible new kits and so Richard Alexander will stand there and tell no more WW2 subjects but may well have say a Wellington in there pipeline just because Sir Peter wants one and we will k ow nothing until WnW deem it fit. Both of those observations are strictly your own opinion. I am sure Mr. Jackson is confident enough in himself that he does not need to release a model kit to boost himself in any way; he has already proven himself long before WNW came about. As for hope: That is on those who made the foolish assumption that the Lancaster was any kind of promise of things to come. VW is considering reinventing the iconic Microbus as an electric vehicle. As a lifelong VW fan I am under no delusion that this also means they might reissue the Karmann Ghia or the Type 3 series in the future, nor will I be pissed if they never do. As stated, companies don't exist to serve your needs. They provide a product and the public can buy it or not. Just because you might think WWII a profitable route to go down doesn't mean anything to them as it is their business and their choice. Tony T
With HKM doing 1/48 now it's possible for them to do biggies in both scales. WnW may be right to limiting its portfolio to 1/32 WW1 during my lifetime. My position is simple: my first WnW kit would be the 1/32 Cant Z.506 or Short Sunderland. Guess WnW aren't going to grace my collection then! C'mon Zukei-Mura: give us a Beaufighter. Tamiya are out of the game too it seems. Tony
