Archimedes Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 The burning question in my mind....Does this mean a ‘Capricorn 1’ diorama is now possible? Jack, Smokeyforgothispassword and Rockie Yarwood 2 1

Kev The largest I currently have, is a 1:100 L-1011, and soon (very soon) a 1:100 767, that'll probably be done up as a KLM machine. Derek B and LSP_Kevin 2

Mine would be a Heller 1/72 707 (actually an AWACS boxing, but will be a Qantas 707 when I'm done). I've got a pair of 1/72 737s coming eventually, so I'm looking forward to building those, too. Smokeyforgothispassword Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 I’m still waiting for their 1/18th Tweet and 1/72 Wedgetail, but if I have to buy a Lear Jet in the mean time, that’s a cross I’ll just have to bear. Rockie Yarwood and Out2gtcha 2

Jack Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 But on the Learjet subject, ya'll know that actually Hughes had this aircraft in the "fighter competition" in the past and that THAT failed to be a reality, but it turned out to be one of the fastest business jets of all times in that era, and it's still looking as if it were a fighter...........

That’s the first time I’ve heard the Learjet is a Hughes design and is in direct conflict with my knowledge based on several years of close association with Bombardier Learjet and a certain Learjet 35A s/n 498. Can you provide me a source for that information; I’d like to dig into it a bit.
Oldbaldguy Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 If the original Lear was a Hughes design then why was it named after the guy who invented the 8-track? I thought the wings and tail came from a failed indigenous Swiss fighter design that Lear bought the rights to and turned into the first biz jet or something more or less along those lines. Hughes modded Lockheed Lodestars into biz planes but nobody on the planet would ever mistake a Lodestar for a Learjet. Did I get all that right? Sometimes I confuse even myself.

That old Heller kit has SO many problems. If you're nudging and winking in the direction that I think you are, well, I'm still waiting for my 737 kit! Kev Derek B 1
