Iain
Sad to report that IPMS (UK) and former Scale Aircraft Modelling stalwart Mike McEvoy passed away at the weekend. I've known Mike and his family since the mid '80's, he was a true gent and character and will be greatly missed. Blue skies Mike. Iain
Quote It is with huge regret and sadness that his family announces that Mike McEvoy died suddenly on Monday 29th November, aged 85. An aircraft enthusiast since he caught his first whiff of aviation spirit at an impressionable age, this was undimmed throughout his Hunter flying days in RAF Germany (until Duncan Sandys had his wicked way), a long career as a civilian Air Traffic Controller at many levels, and his significant involvement in the International Air Tattoo from its very early days. Running throughout all this was his love of scale aircraft modelling, starting off by whittling balsa wood to his deep passion for assembling plastic models, and writing about modelling life in his Tailpiece articles in Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine. He never regarded himself as a "proper" modeller, but this didn't stop him becoming President of the International Plastic Modellers Society, and he felt honoured to be elected as an IPMS Life Member a few years ago. He is survived by his wife Regina, children Dominic, Anna and Huey, and grandchildren Eva, Jackson and Ramona, all of whom love and miss him dearly. Chek
I used to read his column in Scale Aircraft Modelling before anything else in the mag. RIP.
vince14
To his eternal credit Mike never proclaimed to be the world's best modeler, or aircraft expert, despite his position within the industry. If I remember rightly he always hand painted his models, never used an airbrush. Weathering models was just something that got in the way of making the next model!
