Actually if one discards the wheel bay covers (part 17a), the area between the rear of the engine and the front of the firewall becomes visible (like on the real thing).
Then it would be ‘only’ a matter of filling the empty space with the assorted piping. :rolleyes:

Received the kit earlier, option D has the open gearbay.

The following step 10 for option D has the open wheel bay.  Similarly, step 11 is for the closed bay and step 12 is for the open bay.
