  1. The last CAD I saw was an A6M2b so the early one used at Pearl[ALL Mitsubishi built]
  2. That does look close! You're right colors can be hard to get just right ,for a variety of reasons[ been there, done that but don't have the T shirt] . I'd say just get it in close and don't get TOO hung up on it . There's differences on the real deal but all are very close .
  3. Yup, and the "Jake" can't forget that one they were there[ Pearl harbor strike] though very limited. Used as a pre strike recon.
  4. I agree with you I'd go with the MRP. Dull coat it and then take it out in sunlight[ it makes a difference] . I'd say it'll be VERY close. Oh and when you take it outside ,view it from a distance say 2-3 feet then see what'ja got.
  5. Oh stop it already pleeeze! A Spey engine 'toom' would hit it for me, [don't want to have thread drift here]. It's the ONLY version that I'd want to do ,pretty strange coming from a "yank" but then again this IS me we're talking about. Oh , my mailman's mother's 2nd cousin's goldfish said this was going to happen so stay tuned ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls!
  6. Seeing that Z-M is getting back into the Skyraider business, we could really use some more aftermarket decals [ we still got the Trumpeter kits on the loose too] so there is a market . About the only thing out there [that I can find ] is AoA South Vietnam machines and Berna decals for a French AD-4[which do look nice]. Anybody feel the same way?
  7. I've been doing some sniffing around and found that during the timeframe that we're talking about there was one unit I found that indeed had orange or red/orange tails , VT-30 out of Corpus Christie NAAS and they were using, wait for it...... AD-6s, hmmm. Now IF they were from there that's a pretty good distance from N.E. Ohio. The closest Navy reserve unit to us at the time was Willow Grove NAS. So they still could've been squadron hacks . Wouldn't mind doing one of those birds, it doesn't take much prodding to get me rolling on Skyraiders. Willow Grove had them, well, Johnsville actually, but they had gotten rid of them well before 1964
  8. Most probably right about that, still an awesome sight and SOUND. They landed finally at the Youngstown Muni airport where we went out to see them , waited for them to takeoff [which they did] , fantastic !
  9. I've always had thing about the Skyraider ever since I was a youngster . We had 2 of them[ Navy birds ] come over my home town in Northeastern Ohio ~ 1964. The thing that still stands out in my memory is that they had orange tails. I'm thinking now that they were from a training unit, which is odd considering that there were no units like that anywhere near us.I do like the overall GSB scheme the best ,it wears it well.
  10. I'm kind of partial to the He-219 and the -190A with the "ram air" scoops which they should've used [ would've improved the high altitude performance]
  11. Very well said kind sir! Everything that you've stated matches all the references that I have. I've personally seen with my own eyes a relic from a Zero [ don't know whether it was Mitsubishi or Nakajima ], but one thing is for sure it's definitely NOT light grey. Add to that they stared putting the orange/yellow ID stripes on in mid '42 IIRC, before the official word came down then it became standard for both IJAAF and IJNAF. I maybe off on the start time frame on the ID stripes so please don't quote me.
  12. In a word , yes. Mainly after the battle of Midway, which by that time there were Nakajima built Zeros[how many I don't know]
  13. It was a guess for me ,but I should've known the chief pilot though.
  14. Hell I did way better than I thought I'd EVER do! I got 18 outta 20 [ right that is], I missed the ones about how much it cost and the chief test pilot
