Never would have thought the upper surface would be so rough. Thanks for sharing
Yes its quite interesting to see this close.
I have other pics of the trailing edges of the wings too, they do not taper to a fine edge like an aircraft, something I never realized either.

@LSP_Kevin Progress is progress!

Thank you @Cheetah11, I cant wrap my head around how Italeri can use the same splitter and intakes but on built models they are at different lengths...I must be crazy.
-
Ok looked into this intake problem, it looks as if Italeri made some effort in representing the different intake lengths on the fuselage.
There must be a insert between molds to achieve this, look at the length of the air vanes between each kit boxings in relation to the rear of the cockpit.
However It looks as if the intake parts are the same part. I'm leaning to leaving it alone for the amount of work it would take to fix 3/32nd.

@Cheetah11 Would removing material from the front of the intake do it? This would enlarge the inlet opening but that might be what DB did.
Or do I need to retain the opening at the mouth and section out the 3mm or take it from the backside of the part?

@Cheetah11 Very helpful Nick, thanks!

I have gotten spares from Fly, very good response and customer service.

Thanks @Cheetah11 @CarstenB
Not sure if I will make those changes but will consider them, very clear information thanks.
Cheetah, does this mean that the IIIE doesn't have the splitter plate stand offs?

Mirage drop tanks.
After the stress of the gear bay I wanted some easier plus I jump around to hold interest.
The tanks are a mix of soft and crisp detail. The fin parts and circular access port are the challenging areas on these parts. This is not a assembly kit and that’s ok.
Having a circular depression on a seam line is never good but I made it work with a custom reamer to true up the circle.

Yeah, that’s too much effort for me Denis. Super glue is my go to filler.
it’s fast and easy.
Of course it behaves differently and a little care must be taken when scribing.
Another reason I like it is that the low spots present themselves as shiny cured super glue that you can observe at an oblique angle. Once all the shiny is gone you should be level!

Gear well assembled and installed. The front of the bay is also the rear bulkhead of the pit, so planning will be required when painting etc.
The kit also has hollowed out machine guns that are separate parts.
Stark colors of the bays are toned down once in place.

Excellent work Ryan.
A nice dark wash to simulate the traces of hydraulic fluid and it will be perfect, very close to reality.I'm very strange Denis, I don't do washes anymore.
I enjoy the challenge of building the kit and painting without weathering techniques.
That's not to say I wont outline something (panel lines) , but it will be done in the spirit of neatness.
Simulating weathering and other real world abuse do not give me happiness anymore.
My models never start up, fire weapons, leak oil, etc.
The type of the modeling I like is one that would be in a museum, that is the challenge for me.
I can weather and REALLY like looking at weathered models, but its just not for me anymore life is too short.
I have found that if I free myself from the high bar that weathering insists on I have a much better time modeling.
Sorry, I know you didn't ask for all that but I wanted to take you to the end of the story.
Thanks for the compliment and I hope you stick around to see more (unconventional) progress.

Made a start on detail painting…the fun part!
First up some hydraulic lines in grey craft paint, no one breathe!

1/32 Italeri Mirage III E
in Works in Progress
Posted
Did I mention I love plastic detective work.
If you followed Nick's drop tank location fix/ photo above this is for you.
It looks as if Italeri have scribed the drop tank hardpoints and umbilical ports in the correct location for a E model.
BUT if you drill out the locater holes on the back side of the wing it will place the tank in the C models reference point towards the fuse and way from the scribed detail!
Italeri even indicates the location of the correct E mounting location, check it out But then the following drawing shows the tank as it it was installed in the wrong (C model) holes. If it was installed over the correct ports then surely they would be covered in that 2nd CAD shot.
I feel as I have accomplished something today.
The smoking gun shot.....
