  1. That's quite the introduction to the Forums! Welcome from occasionally smokey Ontario.

Beautiful build, both inside and out. Love the cockpit treatment, and the weathering and finish is perfect I think. It's always good to hear the backstory of the subject aircraft too.

    Thanks for joining in!

OK Richard , thais is really impressive. A true masterpiece. I received the Airfix kit yesterday and looking into that endless box of despair makes me clearly understand the extend of your dedication and skill set .

    Bravo!

Thank you so much Martin! The Airfix Mustang is kind of a mixed bag, a product of its time, but it's still worth the effort. Really. :) The job is made much easier now with the spectacular Model Monkey parts. They correct a lot of the serious problems that involved a lot of my time scratch-building. Believe it or not I've started another one, and plan to buy the Model Monkey parts.

    Beautiful result. :)

Thank you! Sorry that you've run into a bit of a wall with your beauty. You've come so far, I can't wait to see you finish it.

  3. Some good guesses, and I love the rationale behind everyone's choices. It's fun to speculate although I know these threads bore some people.

I understand the desire for a 109, but I hope they continue with subjects with a British connection. I would love to see a Sea Fury or Tempest, but suspect it might not sell in the numbers they require. My first choice would always be a completely new P-51D/K. So many users and markings options over its service career, but maybe with the old tool having been reissued so many times I'm not sure the sales would be there either. A P-51B for a change?

I'd love to see a Canadair Sabre if we're talking jets, but that's not very likely.

    Whose turn to guess next?

  4. The codes during that period should be Medium Sea Grey. Sky codes weren't introduced until 1942 when the Day Fighter camouflage was changed to Dark Green/ Ocean Grey with Medium Sea Grey undersides.

That being said, the codes on the sheet do look slightly dark and blue, but they are on a light coloured background. I think the Medium Sea Grey did have a slight blue cast to it. The RAF experts will thankfully chime in shortly...

  5. That's great news about the Corsair gathering! It will make my partner happy, the Corsair is her favourite aircraft...I forgive her.

I completely agree with your endorsement of AirVenture! We usually go for the week, and camping on the site is the best way to live the experience. One bonus is a 7:00 am wake-up call by four Mustangs doing a formation flypast over the campground. I am always amazed at how efficiently organized everything is, starting right from the entry gates. Apart from the incredible variety of aircraft you will see perform, the Warbird park is filed to the edges. From classics from the 1930s to the F-35, there is something for everyone. The numbers involved, both aircraft and people is just staggering. There really is nothing like it. You will meet like-minded enthusiasts and find new friends. Our first time there we shared a campsite (it was a rainy day and we had high ground :) ) with a gentleman, who is now a friend, from the UK who flies two-seat Spitfires providing experience rides. We've shared campsites with him and his partner since.

It's one of those experiences, like Flying Legends or a Duxford show, that an aviation enthusiast should experience at least once if they can. It's a 13 hour drive from where I live in Canada, and I'm excited to do it again.

  6. Yes, this one has been on the future releases list for many years. Not holding my breath...anymore.

And I agree, I hope it wouldn't be a scaled up version of their 1/32 release.

Incidentally, the 80th anniversary of Operation Jericho is in 12 months. Also, the Kiwis of 487 Sqn are the guys who successfully precision bombed the Aarhus Gestapo HQ and later the Copenhagen Gestapo HQ. In both cases they managed to avoid damaging surrounding buildings.

Following up on Wurgermeister64's comment, you might want to reconsider.

This is not to disparage the courage and skill of the Mosquito crews in any way, and highlights the horrible accidents that sometimes occur in wartime. The attack on the Shellhus in Copenhagen was particularly tragic as 86 schoolchildren and 18 staff members at the Jeanne D'Arc School were killed. One of the Mosquitoes in the first wave hit a lamppost (!) and crashed into the school which started a fire about a mile away. Some of the subsequent waves bombed the burning ruins of the school.

There is a Danish film called "The Bombardment" ( the English title ) which is currently showing on Netflix in North America which covers the raid.

    Aarhus Raid

The RAF were understandably horrified by the accidental bombing. I remember reading in Johnny Johnson's book "Wing Leader" that the RAF held a large airshow in Denmark after the war, and the proceeds went to the families of the survivors of the Copenhagen raid.

    Sorry for sidetracking the thread.

That Folgore should be epic.  What's the chances of finding a few different choices of Italian Pilots available?  I can only think of the ICM Axis pilot's set ATM.  Maybe somebody in Italy makes some?  I know I had to order from Poland to get hold of a Polish Lancer from 1939.

Allarmi Figures from Italy do a few different poses and historical figures.

Here is the page from Ultracast in Canada, but I'm sure they are more readily available in Europe.

  10. Thank you for the kind words! It was an ordeal but I had fun.

That's unfortunate! I looked for their P-51 stencils in 1/32, which have the caps, but unfortunately even Hobby Decal Products are out of stock. I found the 1/24 scale version in stock with Sprue Brothers, but of course, wrong scale for you.

Yes, lets hope that one of the aftermarket companies is listening...
