quang
Dear fellow modellers, I’m giving it to you straight: I’m building this kit by sheer gluttony because until recently I never had the slightest interest in Spitfires and I always considered 1/24 as the scale for the blurry-eyed and the ham-fisted. Until before last Christmas, I stumbled on a presentation video on YouTube of the new Airfix 1/24 Spitfire. I was so impressed that I asked myself …what if I simply regress and go back to the simpler joys of sticking plastic and dabbling paint without the fussiness of modern modelling? So here we are: a out-of-the-box (well almost ) build of the Airfix überkit. No babble needed, just lurid images for your eyes only. With Eduard PE harness Above: before shading. Below: after shading Questions and comments are welcome. Thank you all for watching, Cheers, Quang themongoose, scvrobeson, Madmax and 29 others

Yet they look good with the decals. It’s the main reason I put them on. I thought they would go un-noticed but obviously eagle-eyed Waroff was watching! Jim Barry
It’s just so great to see Airfix do this plane the honor. Glad you are enjoying the simple pleasures of a stunning kit. Scale modeling begins at 1/24 (my view) though the 1/32 offering is nice because jets. (1/24 won’t touch them) Martinnfb
Iain
Great to see you make a start on this - looking really good! Will be following and making notes as I'm about to start the same kit... Iain Martinnfb

Incidentally the plane I chose to portray for the Airfix kit is FU*N from the same 453 sqn RAAF on your photo. (The ‘fun build’ in the thread title is no mere coincidence ). Here FU*N on Station Ford a few hours before taking off for D-Day. 14 hours ago, Jim Barry said: Scale modeling begins at 1/24 (my view) though the 1/32 offering is nice because jets. quang
What, me worry? As long as it’s ‘perfectly scaled’… Martinnfb, Paul in Napier and MikeMaben 1
quang
Merlin 66 in progress… Ironically black on black required a whole array of colours and took much longer than I thought. This is just the basic engine. Ancillaries still need to be added along with complementary brushwork. Basic cradle. Seams still need to be cleaned up… Thank you for watching, See you next! Stokey Pete
That’s looking seriously good. I’ll be following along grabbing tips and inspiration, with the two that I have in the stash in mind. Martinnfb and quang
