No, I had fully understood. I just meant that for modern planes, using Tamiya as 'the reference' is alas a way to be disappointed as there are few kits that corresponds more or less to such a standard. To go back to the original question, Trumpeter progressively improved the ease of assembly but regarding accuracy it is still hit or miss... As others and me wrote this depends on the topic.

I take the opportunity to apologize  if I have sounded rude, it wasn't my intention

Hi, I really like both, I’ve seen some nice kits on this online store

Personal recommendations would be the Dauntless, Avenger, Devastator, F3F, Swordfish, P-47, Hurricanes and Mig 3.

Mig 15, 109e, Super sabre, not worth the candle tbh….

I second that and add that the P-51B is the biggest dud of them all in our scale

Hi!

I have built about a dozen or so of Trumpeters kits and they have been generally pretty good as the;

 F4F-4 Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, P-38 Lightning, MiG-21UM A-7E Corsair and P-47N Thunderbolt.

The MiG-3, Messerschmitt 262, F8F Bearcat and Dauntless was outstanding builds.

The MiG-17 and the P-51B Mustang was awful, among the worst kits I have built, but I put a lot of work and aftermarket parts in them and they turned out pretty good in the end, but I would´nt recommend them to anybody!

Trumpeter and Hobbyboss kits are generally good builds, but they have a very relaxed attitude for accuracy,

Many of trumpeters kits are  downright copies of other makers, some of Trumpeters best kits are copied from Tamiya (Me262, Swordfish..) and Accurate Miniatures (Avenger, Dauntless...).

But some of the worst kits (Mig-15/17) are also copied from Tamiya, the Mig-21 family are copied from Academy.

Just a few examples, but I´m glad Trumpeter have given those kits to us in our scale.

I like Trumpeter and Hobbyboss, but you have to be careful when you choose, generally newer kits are the best.

I´m building the Devastator at the moment and that kit have gone together as a dream so far.

I like´em, but I´m not a fan (if that makes sense...)!

I'm going to add my 2c worth here (and, yes I know that you guys are predominantly talking about planes, and yeah I know, this is a predominantly plane site and I'm 4 years late to the conversation but.) I'll just add that Trumpeter do an awesome array of 1/350 and 1/700 ships. Their accuracy is not at all that bad if you care about such things, and their later releases have been great value for money with the inclusion of PE. They also cover subjects that no one else does (large scale DKM H-Class battleships etc) which is super cool in my eyes.

Yeah, it's likely they've produced a few plonkers, but no more than any other maker has in the past. I'm no fanboy but I feel they get quite a negative wrap in terms of accuracy etc. To me, it seems only a handful of consumers are the rigid rivet counters, crying a kit is un-build-able because the nose is out by 1.3 degrees, or the panel lines have too many rivets on one line and not enough on another, blah, blah, whinge, whine, but the rest of the flexible and appreciative consumers generally accept Trumpeter kits to be decently accurate.

I mean, they look like the subject at the end of the build - well, in most cases they do, depends on the builder. For me personally, I couldn't really care any less about such things unless it was blatantly obvious something wasn't right (SU-27 intakes anyone?) and even then, if you do care, be a modeller and fix it. Or buy aftermarket. What ever spins your props :punk:

Priorities are different for every builder, but don't discount their kits on the basis of one or two people's view.

Just save yourself some time & money and see it my way

I'll get my coat....

I treat Trumpeter kits vary warily these days.  I need to see other people's efforts with them as most have some sort of stupid error or three.

I have a few in the stash and I doubt I'll ever build most of them.  Their Hurricanes have been disappointing with shape issues, rubbish decals and a very poor and tiny engine included in the kit. I prefer the old Airfix Hurricane any day.  Their P-51B ended up in the bin.  I did build their P-47D Razorback in two goes and while I hated it at first, it ended up being OK, even if the engine cowl is wrongly shaped - too much like a horse shoe.  I really enjoyed their MiG3 and would happily build another.  Don't need any of their 1/24 Spitfires as the excellent new Airfix Mk.IX and Mk.VIII make them redundant in my view.  I have built two 1/24 109's; a G-6 and a K.  The G-6 was OK but the K is rubbish.  Way too many inaccurate parts, mostly in the cockpit.

So that's my $0.02.

Cheers,

Michael

Trumpy has a wide array of kits. A-team, B-team, and those other guys.

In 1/32, it depends what you want to build. P40 B, only trumpy did one in plastic. P40E, olde Revell, trumpy and Hasegawa. So, I break down what the subject is, and make my choice. There are clear A-team kits, but it depends on the subject for me. They do have some nice naval  subjects, and some very good armor.

Trumpeter used to make the only 1/32 P-40B, but Great Wall Hobby also released a kit.

Right. Forgot aboot that. The price point is so high. Likely to be the top-of-the-mark kit, but not a viable price to most.
