  1. I think they have for the A6. Most should be useful for the ZM model and I will use them
  2. You are most welcome, another little discovery on the road to perfection. I have asked Andy at Scale Model Shed to do a masterclass video on YouTube for seam lines. Check out his channel.
  3. I built the 1:24 G6 and found it a bit "so so". There are plenty of aftermarket improvements which I went for such as decals for the engine, data plates etc. along with a Galland hood. The wheel bays are poor but I now know that the recesses are actually holes IRL. I would have cut them out had I known. Not a bad kit but not worth the money given the awesome Airfix Spitfire at around the same price point. The reason for building it was to sit alongside the MkIX. It has however introduced me to SMS paint and the PL189 light blue works very well. Crosses etc. are painted using easy to make masks and they look terrific.
  4. I have this in the build queue behind a lovely Tamiya 1:48 Mosquito IV which will be in PR blue. Hopefully the after-market cockpit upgrades will be available so I can add them to the 190. I am considering a winter white scheme which will be a nice addition to the collection.
  5. I'm getting the same but I presume that the colour makes it slightly "off white". I just give it a really good shake to mix it all through and it's good to go. Nice colour when applied though, far better that ultra-white.
  6. Folks, click on the link "F18 Aggressor" to see one heck of a model. It isn't large scale however the work is on a different planet compared to my efforts.
  7. Having built a couple of kits with Mr Dissolved Putty, I was rather fed up with shrinkage. The product seems to take a week to fully cure. A friend is a master model builder (take a look at his latest work, those are pencils in the background F18 Aggressor) so I asked which product he uses. The recommendation is Vallejo Plastic Putty which has a fine applicator nozzle. It can also be left to cure and then rubbed back with a cotton bud. Apply levelling thinners then rub back with a dry bud. Another step closer on the long road to perfection.
  8. Just saw this, I have stuck a note in the box to remind me when I start the kit.
  9. An update for UK based folk who are after this very rare kit. I guess I am not allowed to name vendors but if you Google a model supplies shop in central Cardiff's Wyndham Arcade, they have a few in stock in their warehouse.
  10. Thanks Tom, RLM colours seem to vary with the day of the week. Which paint and what serial number did you use ? I'm relatively new to this and started off with Tamiya but have found Mr Colour, AK Interactive and SMS Premium to be excellent. SMS RLM76 (PL189) underside light blue looks very pale but works brilliantly on a 1:24 109 G6. I'm very tempted to do the 190 in winter camo. The AK Insignia White is slightly cream tinted which over a base of normal camo, could look interesting.
  11. Looks fantastic, I have 2 kits to complete before I start on this one. I'm considering having a half open build as shown in this link. What paint did you use for the wheel wells ? I presume that IRL, the fuselage insides were bare metal but I'm wondering if some artistic licence e.g. zinc chromate, would be better ? It's a high class problem. 12. I have managed to track down a kit in the UK as they are now extremely rare. At the start of the thread, there was mention of aftermarket cockpit detail, did you get it and if so, where can I find it ? The build diary is fantastic and I will use this as a guide. I see OneManArmy have a 1:32 FW190 stencil set, I may give that a try. Cheers DD
  13. Childhood - everything Last 18 months - Airfix 1:24 Spitfire, Trumpeter 1:24 109-G6, Tamiya 1/35 Ukraine Leopard tank, Airfix 1:72 Vulcan underway. Zoukei Mura FW 190 next That awesome HE-111 whenever it is available !!!!!!!!!!
  14. I see that amongst the kits for 2024, the venerable P51D is getting another airing. I lusted after this as a kid, but now I have got back into the hobby and have rather more pocket money, it is a contender. I have however read that the kit was a bit of a dog. Did anyone build it and can they comment ?
  15. Agreed, this is all useful stuff and a few quid on AK thinners seems a wise investment compared to the risk of getting a poor surface finish. Andy at Scale Model Shed explained to me that thinners erode the paint particles which then precipitate out. Shaking up an aged mix sorts it all out and spraying gives an even finish. Lot's of science involved, or so it seems.
  16. On the contrary, if it widens the range of large scale kits, makes the hobby more popular and stimulates demand, then bring it on. Larger aircraft become untenable in 1:32 as your spray booth is a fixed size. The 1:32 Lancaster looks incredible but how do you paint it and then what do you do with it ? I think the 111 looks fantastic. Well done !
  17. It looks incredible ! The Modelling News: Border model's flying start to 2024 - He-111 H-6, Spitfire Mk.Vb & A6M2 Zero in 35th scale
  18. You will enjoy the Airfix Spit, after market exhaust stubs are a "must" IMHO. There is an omission in the instructions in that the circular transparency in the compass tray has to be fitted. It's a wonderful kit that you will enjoy building.
  19. My 1:24 109-G has ended up as a "Bitza". I used some stencils for fuselage numbers, a paint scheme from another source, solid walkway limits using masking tape (better than the pecked decals) and some after market additional detailing. I think it looks cracking and that's all that matters. I remember being asked a few questions when I fitted the flare storage rack to the new Airfix 1:24 Spitfire. I liked it and that's what matters. I thought that the "station bike" meant something entirely different.
  20. An airfield somewhere in England, the Blenheim crew report to dispatch............. Skipper : "Morning Doris, what sort of kite do you have for us today?" Dispatcher : "Errrrr..... IV" Skipper : "Sorry Ivy, which aircraft do you have for us today?" Dispatcher : "Watch it sunshine, my name is Doris. It's a mark 4 and don't try to be a smart alec." Exit a rather red faced skipper while his crew are laughing their socks off.
  21. I guess that anyone talking in roman numerals during wartime (or at any time) would have attracted some strange looks. They may well have been described as PR IX themselves.
  22. A PR Mk 9. There were 16 type 374 machines which had drop tanks. The photos taken after the dambusters raid were from one of those aircraft.
  23. A Spitfire PR.9 would be the icing on the cake.
  24. I hope this thread is of use, I'm going to do the Troppo version. Any news on new parts in the kit ? Airfix 1:24 Stuka - Page 2 - LSP Discussion - Large Scale Planes
