With my Training Day GB build sent to the SOD, I’m going to join this GB with the vintage Hasegawa F-86 kit, and I’ll be using the Avionix cockpit with the build. I’m looking to build a Korean War jet, and I have a lead on some decals. I’m aware I’ll need to perform surgery on the wing tips. Are there other external adjustments/change need to make a Korean War Sabre?
I began the build by closing up the gun bays and speed brakes. I was pleasantly surprised how well they fit, so minimal filler was needed. As you can see I got heavy handed with the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement along a couple of the panels.
Next up is working on the cockpit.
Thanks for looking in on my build.

Jennings - is that a hint of decals you’ll be doing for the kit? Maybe Vietnam ones too?

This build has gone to the SOD as a result of an issue at the paint shop. I decided to try a new paint based on its rave reviews for this build, but it didn't workout on this build. The color was way off. Attempts to remedy the issue just led to more issues and compounded my frustrations. I should have tested before applying to the build. Lesson learned. I'm not motivated to strip the paint, so off to the SOD it goes for now.

Looking forward to another one of your fantastic builds!

Thanks guys!
Progress has been made on the build, albeit slower than I hoped. I spent the last couple of nights masking the canopy, and now it's ready for the paint shop.
Now for a whole lot of white paint! I'll be laying down a good coat of Tamiya white primer then covering it with MRP US Navy White.
Thanks for checking in on my build.

Another fantastic build! As others have said, I appreciate your efforts doing these WIP. I’ve learned a lot from them. Based on your build, I’ve picked up this kit plus the AM, and I’ll be using your WIP as a guide.
Looking forward to your CF-104!

Made a little progress on the build. First, I got the intakes on, but I realized after the fact I forgot to paint the interiors of them. . I'll see if I can paint the interiors satisfactory, and if not, FOD covers will be the backup plan. The speed brakes went in next, and they fit better than I was expecting. Although there are gaps at the brake's hinge points that I'll fill with pieces of styrene, the remainder of the brakes only needed minimal filler. The two cockpits were glued in and the fuselage was closed up. I need to clean up some seam lines, and these have been given a coat of Mr Surfacer.
After looking at the pics, the seats look quite monotone, so I attempted to bring out a few highlights by drybrushing. Although, it's difficult to make out in the pic. I haven't added the ejection handles yet as I know I would knock/bust them off. I'll get them added just before I install the canopy. I'll put a piece of blue tape on top of the seats to remind me.
Thanks for looking in on the build.

After a long delay, I've finally started this build. I've recently gotten into 1/20 F1 race cars kits, and my focus has been building these of late. Before I started the next F1 kit, I figured I better get this build going. I've decided to keep the resin seats for a couple A-4 adversary builds I'm planning, so I just used the simplistic kit seats.
Although you can't see it in these pics, the seats and tubs have been dirtied up with Florey grimey weathering wash.
Next up will be getting the intakes and speed brakes installed. Overall, the kit appears to be a quick build; although, I don't expect it to be without some fit issues.
Also, I've decided to go with the VT-24 markings. Something bright in the display case will look good!
Thanks for looking in.

Definitely cheaper than if MFH had produced a kit of this car. For me, this kit is on the Xmas buy list.

Snowbird3a - thanks for explanation on the different wing types. To keep this easy on me, I'm going to keep the cord as is and make a 6-3 hard wing. I've spent numerous nights Googling Sabres, and I've found a couple of great sites with colored photos of Sabres during the Korean War. I'm starting to enjoy the research associated with the builds.
I've made some good progress on the build. I started with getting the cockpit sidewalls installed. After scrapping away the kit's sidewalls, I glued in the resin sidewalls:
After getting the sidewalls in, I next worked on getting the cockpit to fit, and after several nights of scrapping and sanding, I was able to get the cockpit to fit in the fuselage. Once I was comfortable with the fit of the cockpit, it was painted black along with the sidewalls, and the dial, gauges, and switches were highlighted. The front and rear sections were attached, and the fuselage was closed up. I failed to take pics of the cockpit and the assembling of the fuselage, but here a couple pics of the assembled fuselage.
There's cleanup work I need to do on a couple of seams, but overall, I'm surprised and impressed with the fit of the 70's era kit.
Next up will be working on the wings: cutting the extension, glueing the slats, and making the wing fence.
Thanks for looking in.
