Tamiya P-51D, Sinai, 1956, with Reposted Images

I needed to amend the earlier bomb stuff to make it work.

I drilled a hole where you see the red dot in the rack.  This is the clip location for the arming wire.  Needed to do new sway brace bolts so the bomb could fit snugly against the brace and rack.  Drilled a hole at the bomb lug attachment point, fore and aft, threaded .010 solder, and twisted it together.  Removed the lug attachment point on the bomb and drilled holes to accept the twisted solder.

Painted the bomb.  First, primer, then O.D.  Mixed 1:1 O.D. and Black, and stippled that on with an old broken down flat brush  Mixed 1:1 O.D. and White then stippled that on.  Mixed 1:1 O.D and Insignia Yellow then stippled that on.  The twisted solder is inserted into the holes of the lug location.  Needs to be trimmed shorter, I see.  The sway braces couldn't move up or down earlier because they were glued in place.  But here they can.  Not as accurate as a bolt.  I guess one can't have everything.

Thanks for looking and liking.

Sincerely,

Mark

Thank you, Sandokan.

I've been putting on the final bits before matte coating.

DSCN6226_zps9jkgttcl.jpg

Added light bulbs.  Stretched sprue, flared end with spent match.  Not all the same diameter.  Oh, well.

DSCN6227_zps60ctjeiy.jpg

Added a drain pipe using an Albion Alloy tube.

A bit of a walk-around:  Still much to do.

DSCN6249_zpsy3qzxnk0.jpg

Antenna broke off during set up.  Always something.  Stripped the model down to bare plastic, all except the rudder and horizontal stabs and their flaps.  Paint job is third edition.

A lot of work, this one.  Broken parts, paint stripping, you name it.  It needed to be redone.  National Markings, ID Numerals, Campaign Stripes, from home-made masks.

I don't know what it is about that green.  But it is a real eyesore photographically.  Its much less brilliant than what shows.

Oil wash of Raw Sienna represents Sinai sand color.  Hard demarcation line this go-around.

It didn't take much exposure time in the Sinai Desert to make commercial paint wear out, bleach, fade, and peel.

Blue fading.

Repainted bullets.  Red on port cartridge rail

Overall wing.  Attempt at color variation through the use of a sanding pad rather than using an airbrush.

Bullet close-up, really.

Other side.  Not such a hot photo.  Apologies.  Color variation by way of a sanding pad.

Sinai Desert sand blasts paint.  The paint used during the Sinai campaign was not an industrial paint.  It was a commercial paint.  It didn't have extreme weather condition integrity.

Looks better with a flat coat.

If you like this sort of thing.
