airscale
thanks guys - glad you like how it's turning out yey - I finished the nose skinning apart from the nosecone... ..the pewter is so shiny I have to be careful not to get my ugly mug in the reflection when taking photo's... some most ingenious tips that I will surely use myself! By the way, have you fashioned your own tool to make the 'circle' indentations for certain rivets / fasteners etc? I'm looking to get some tools to make cross head screw heads, fasteners etc as opposed to just using the riveting wheel all the time.. Hi Rich - I have a beading tool set from UMM - on sale now too @ $20 - very useful.. back soon TTFN Peter Uilleann, Iain, BiggTim and 5 others
BiggTim
I am just totally out of things to say about this. I am truly inspired and itching to try it! airscale
KUROK
This pewter has such a realistic appearance. You get some of the mild wrinkle effect as on a stressed aluminum aircraft! airscale

fightersweep
I've looked long and hard at this thread. I've pondered it at length, chewed my pipe and rubbed my chin in a thoughtful manner. I've sat down and looked at it some more, and just had a long discussion with my dog about this build. We've both come up with the same conclusion. This is actually a full scale restoration of a real Tigercat. No really! It has to be? Surely? Amazing...stunning build! Words fail me...they do! Me and the dog are quitting modelling and taking up knitting instead. Regards; Steve Victor K2, airscale and Uilleann

airscale
evening folks ..thanks for your kind words - keeps me at it.. ..so not much today as I have been experimenting.. ..I prepared a form for the rudder a while back and got it out to start thinking about how to go about it. The real F7F has a metal skinned rudder but with what look like rib tapes over some sort of fasteners... like this... ..i tried embossing with the hard edge of a set square and got a sort of raggedy impression I thought I could work with.. ..so set out the paper rudder onto litho... ..the first one failed as it cracked and broke, but the principle seemed to be working... ..three tries later and I had a working piece... ..added some what were supposed to be feint rivets and taped it up as a mock-up... ..do you think it works, or is too distinct? I might try adding foil over rivets and see what that looks like... TTFNPeter Uilleann, geedubelyer, allthumbs and 3 others
Uilleann
Seeing the rudder detail against the rest of the airframe Peter, at this stage it does look a dash more pronounced. But it could just be the light/angle of the photos? Top shelf regardless!!! airscale
AlexM
I would be happy if I could at least rudimentarily create a rudder like you did Though as you asked, on the model there seem to be some very subtle "hills and valleys", while the original rudder seem to be relatively flat.
