Well, from the photos , it looks to be a wee bit overstated. To be fair , it might look differently in the flesh or with a coat of paint. I'll have to wait and see ,as of now ,it's a pass for me. The thing to understand is with the "stressed skin" "oil canning" however you might want to call it, it's not everywhere or all the time. I may very well be off the mark on this, been known to happen from time to time. One thing, though, I certainly hope they got their act together with regards to the instructions. It'll be a real scream to try and put something this complex together with sub standard instructions.

I was thinking of buying this one but after looking at some real photos of the plane no chance. Cheers.

Were you talking about the real plane? They're not showing us much  of the moldings as of yet so what is putting you off? I'm

asking because I don't know a whole lot about -111s, that I can pick one out of a line up. It's the surface texture that is bothering me.

Well after looking at photos on Getty Images I just cant see the surface detail that Border have on the wings and the fuselage, but I would be happy to be proven wrong of course. Cheers.

Gotcha! While they may have gotten the basic shapes and proportions right ,we'll have to wait and see. The surface texture might look better with the whole thing together with some paint on.

I didn't know they skinned the -111 with crocodile skin.

Every day's a school day. :D

I applaud Border for trying to improve scale modelling like this. I have wanted manufacturers to give us textured metal skins forever but I agree with the sentiment that less is more in many cases.

The recent A-20 releases looked too uniformly rippled to my eye and whereas this appears more random, there is alot of it.

However, it might look superb when painted.

Having looked at a lot of photos...   I just can't ever remember seeing a He-111 that had this effect.   I mean...  not every plane has been flying as long as a B-52.  Or some restored P-40C.  Or had eight guns spread across the width of it's wings necessitating the ground crew walking or crawling all over them during the entire battle of Britain.  I hate to say it, but this one just doesn't fly.  A shame, really.

Pretty visible on this aircraft for sure. Wonder if it was used for the rendering by Border.

I am more concerned about the quality of the instructions.

This aircraft is almost as old as your grandparents.  Probably lifted into the museum on a crane.  I suppose if that is what you want...   but if you look at wartime 111's, , younger than your grandkids, it isn't seen.

no other choice if you want a HE111 in a larger scale than 1/48....... I wonder how much is this kit. Maybe better to just buy a 1/32 from the auction sites?
