Well, I just scared myself, went thru part of the stash and I've got a Z-M TA-152H1! I don't remember buying that ! Maybe I'll pull that out and start it . I've heard good and bad about it so I'll give it a go.

There’s so many alternatives in then32nd market, that I actually don’t miss the fact that Tamiya hasn’t given us anything new. I’m kind of in the “if they do….bonus” camp.

JerseyChris reacted to cbk57 in Any news about the Tamiya 1:32 scale F-22 Raptor ?
I don't see Tamiya dong an f-22 under any circumstance.  Years ago when Hasegawa did it in 1/48, it from what I read did not sell well.  As to Tamiya Mosquito, I suspect there is more to it than just not selling as well as they hoped, I suspect it was also a bit of HKM released one right around the same time which took some wind out of the Mosquito market.  I owned the Tamiya kit with a bunch of AM but when it came down to it, I just did not feel like building it and sold it on this forum.  I looked at it and went over the instructions but in the end moved it on.  It was not too complex for me, I have built a lot of 1/32 Tamiya kits.  I just did not feel it.  Maybe someday I don't know.

People keep saying Tamiya is out of the LSP business, I don't buy that.  I can believe they have and are taking a pause, but I don't buy the never again claims.  The demand for certain well done subjects in 1/32 is very high and i think Tamiya will come back but it will be something low risk like a P-51B, BF-109G or something of that nature.  When this happens I have no idea any more than anyone here does.

Anyway we have 2023 to see if something comes but I am not worried about it.  1/32 is the best it has ever been as far as new product releases and quality so if Tamiya never did another 1/32 I would be fine.  Until they choose to release something, I have plenty to work on.  If Kotare does a all new 1/32 kits a year in WWII subjects I will have enough to work on that I never need a Tamiya kit again in 1/32.

I don’t see a single comment which is adverse to anything that you have said, so I’m a bit mystified.   The LSP forum and members are the most inclusive and friendly bunch that I’ve experienced anywhere, some real friendships have been forged here so I really don’t think that you should feel that your “different” approach to life in general, and modelling specifically is under attack, indeed I value individuality enormously, I always chose to “do my own thing” regardless. Rock on, and enjoy your Yak!

I saw the comment about too many parts, too. I'm still scratching my head over that one?

I like parts. I like to detail parts. The scale allows for some rather cool detailing. In some ways it's the myriad parts and all the detailing that are the reason to model. The finished product can be awesome, but it's the journey there that is at the heart of modeling - IMO of course.

I have to firmly agree with you. I thought I'd never hear someone say that a kit has too much detail. The example of the Airfix spitfire is indeed odd. To me that's just bad engineering Currently building the Z-M G-14 and it's been an epic build[ not perfect] I'll be getting done with this and going right into a Tamiya Mossi[ my 2nd] we live in good times! I thought someone said the hobby is /was dying

Who wants to build things without detail?! I think people just like to complain. The more detail the better I say!  Plus, the accuracy has also gotten so much better. I want my kits to be as close to the real thing as possible. That's why I was so stoked about the RFM full interior Sherman. That thing is like a miniature version of the real tank! Right down to details you can't see once built. Granted the parts counts can be daunting, but that just adds to the build time and fun! If Andy's does a full interior Sherman in 1/16th,  I buy it even at triple the cost!

I was recently surprised to read a couple of comments on Tamiya's 1/32 Mosquito as being too detailed and having too many parts. I personally found the comments strange as the primary reason I build large scale is for the enhanced detail offered which invariably requires a higher number of parts. In fact I'm amazed at how far our hobby has progressed over the decades.Think back to the good old days of the Aurora whatever scale Spitfire Mk.? and compare it to the new Airfix 1/24 Spitfire IXc. The former's part count could likely be counted on your fingers whereas the Airfix kit has hundreds of parts. Even the later Monogram 1/48 Spitfire IX had only a dozen or so parts and a cockpit that only offered a seated pilot. Simply, the larger/newer kits offer a quantum increase in detail by being larger and having more parts. As a visual comparison, the below photo shows the start of my Airfix kit in the company of two much earlier offerings. From this modeller, thank you all you companies that offer large scale kits.

JerseyChris reacted to Greif8 in Oh the Humanity! Threw Some Built Kits Away
As the threat title states, I threw several built models away yesterday.  Among the victims were several 1/48 scale builds that I had done in the past, a couple of 1/32 scale aircraft and a 1/72 scale Uboat.  My wife was shocked when she saw me placing the models in a large garbage bag for disposal and asked why I was doing so.  Good question!  She made me look at why I had/have decided on the route I took and below is a bit of an explanation of my reasoning.  It would be interesting to hear what others think about my thoughts and how the situation would apply to them if/when the time comes.

I explained to her that no one on our family was interested in recieving one or more of the models to display in their respective homes; which is just fine by the way, I completely understand that I am in a minority of one when it comes to modelling in all its aspects.  She countered by telling me that I have sold built models in the past and she knows that others have expressed interest in buying some of my stuff.  What she said is true enough, and I told her I did not go that route for two reasons.  First, I did not feel that the models, while of decent quality, were up to the standard that I would feel comfortable with putting them up for sell.  The second reason will be very familiar with those of you who have sold builds, that is - preparing them for shipping and than keeping your fingers crossed that all the effort you put into packing the model(s) will allow them to arrive at their new owner(s) in undamaged, or at least with very minor damage.

To be brutally honest, most of all with myself, I did not believe the quality of the finished models was worth the effort.  I had to laugh when my wife, she of little to no interest in my hobby, rather strongly disagreed.  Reflecting on our conversation about the above later made me think about what I am going to do when the time comes in the future to again clear space in my display cases.  The majority of models are of the quality that I would be comfortable selling; however some of the such as the WNW WWI aircraft are far too fragile - in my opinion at least - to be able to pack well enough to avoid major damage or destruction during shipping.  Two models that I sold and shipped in the past suffered significant damage or total destruction though they were very well packed, double boxed, secured in a way nothing fragile was under stress, marked as Fragile on all sides of the box, etc,.  Even though both models were well insured, the issues they brought up have been very off putting to me.

With all the above in mind I have reached, what to some might be an unthinkable conclusion.  The ships and most armor will probably be sold.  Given how their shapes tend to make them more robust - in most cases - and easier to pack in a way that greatly reduces the risk of damage that seems to be worth the effort.  Sadly, most of my LSP aircraft do not fall into that catagory and will probably end up in the trash.  Painful to be sure, but I got the pleasure of building them and will still have many photos to remind me of them.   It is what it is, as the saying goes.

One other thing I am incredibly pleased with and proud of is the artwork for the set which my good friend Antonis Karidis created..

I was going to keep it under wraps until I release the set, but I have been gazing at it all day and wanted to share it

Antonis has a talent that is quite simply unmatched in digital art and is now in very high demand among manufacturers and magazines, I am sure many of you will recognise his work

anyways, this is a little bit of airscale history I am personally overjoyed with...

Very, very sad event with dramatic consequences. However I cannot stop thinking it is crazy to put such rare and valuable old airframes in the sky. The terrible result would have probably been similar if two recent planes or replicas had been used but at least such old artefacts would have been preserved. I know that planes are built to fly but even if fully restored these ones have not been built to be used as warbirds more than 50 years after their service time. So this is debatable but personally I prefer seeing them well preserved in a museum and rolling on the ground rather than taking the risk to end in ashes...

Well, I had a small box dropped of at the manor house today. The represents my modelling retirement build, as I’ll need to dismantle the building workbench to display this when it’s done. It’s an indulgence, yes. It’s expensive, but I’ll get a couple of years worth of enjoyment out of it. Hell, l’ll get a months worth of
enjoyment just from examining the contents.

Hi everyone, I thought you might like to see where I am at with some new 1/48 Ju 88 sets - my baby haha. The Ju 88 R-2 awaits its decal sheet and will be ready to go (based on Revell or Dragon C kit). The Ju 88 S-1 awaits its decals and PE as well as some 3D designed parts like an AB 500 flare container and the starfish flame dampers. The Falcon canopy set is already in stock (designed for the Dragon G-6 kit). And then my all time favorite bird - the S-3 - everything said about the S-1 applies but also I am having the outboard ETC rack and the fat and the cigar drop tanks also designed in 3D. It has been great fun but extremely painful to do these profiles and I hope one day to be able to model one myself. You will note in the photo of the R-2 parts that they is a replacement fin assembly - needed because Dragon messed up the whole area by making the fuselage stick back 3mm further than the rudder hinge line. Anyway it is all fixed and includes a little internal detail for your trouble! This item will be sold also as a separate product to easily correct the many Dragon A / C and P kits that are out there. Enjoy and thanks. John

A couple of weeks ago, the wife asked me a question. It was about the order of succession in the Royal Family. And we discussed then about the Queen's health. At that time, I honestly thought it would be a couple of years, and then Charles would be on the throne.
Today, I have almost been glued to the news ever since it was announced about the health issues! I was still shocked and saddened by the announcement at 18:30 BST of Her Majesty's death !
I am proud to say that I served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces (RAF). Thank you for your 75 years of service to your Country and people, and your 70 years as our Monarch. Clear skies Ma'am!
