I had the same experience with mine.  I probably put 12 coats of Solvaset on it and it didn't really get it all down anyway....

Intake seams now worked out to my satisfaction (finally), but still in need of another light coat of MRP Neutral Grey 43. Should I ever get around to doing the E, I’ll make it a point to paint the screens first, then assemble the intake parts, correct the seams and then glue them in place, which is what I should have done this time.
