Thanks everyone! I just love the look of German nightfighters. They are elegant, yet quite sinister. Working on this beast has also started the itch of the Dragon/AIMS Bf-110G-4 conversion as well... we'll see if I itch it. Maybe I should get a few kits off the bench first :-p

Nice work Dennis and good to see this one back on the bench. I think I am stuck at the same point as you deciding how to deal with the cockpit glazing after sanding the life out of the aims resin!

While you decide how to deal with the canopy issues the 110 G-4 conversation will definitely take your mind off the G-6 for sure!

Hi @Dennis7423

One of my favorite a/c, it looks great! Very good job indeed.
I used Pastor John's/AIMS sets to convert my A-4 to a C-6, fully agree that it is really nice stuff. I had the same nose/fuselage issues though...modelling...;)

As far as the canopy "conversion" goes, I had the same issue in converting to a C-6 (no forward Mg through the windshield)
My approach was to first sand off all the asymmetric framing, then use a mirrored template made from Tamiya tape of the opposite side windshield. I use that then to use as cut lines to cut out the canopy part, and make an insert from clear acetate. Frames were built up in paint using Mr. Surfacer.

Here's the final result. Not perfect, but very passable

All the best with the build, can't wait to see her finished!!!!!

I am actually kicking myself a bit, especially after seeing Iain's transformation, because I was thinking of doing the same thing this morning! However, I have already cut out the kit's original strange-shaped window, in preparation for completely replacing it. The things you do before learning the canopy is essentially symmetrical :-p

But, we progress forward! I'll figure something out. I unfortunately, too, did not get a clean vacform canopy from Pastor John. I'll need to try and source another kit canopy, which will be no small task.

Iain, what a beaut! And a wonderful conversion of the kit piece. Wish I would have done mine the same, but I'll have to figure out an alternative. Dohh!

Hi Ian.

Really a great job both for the cockpit and for the rest, even if you have painted the fuselage I see that you have already the antennas of the fug202 mounted this terrify me, when I built mine in 1/48 I mounted them at the last after I had firmly glued the plane to the base and even then I got a cold sweat in mounting them. Even today when I take it in my hand I always have the fear of folding something. I continue to follow you with a lot of interest

  • Dennis7423 changed the title to WIP: 1/32 Revell Ju-88 w/ AIMS G-6 Conversion: 11/16/22 Progress!

Since It's been about a year since I posted an update on this beasty, I suppose it's time!

When I left you all last, I was at a standstill trying to figure out how to convert the windscreen. I'm not any good with vac-form parts, and I was not successful in converting the kit pieces. Well, Ali at Aerocraft came to the rescue, and created a resin replacement armored windscreen. Hooray! I could finally move forward. It's a lovely piece... some careful trimming under the front edges to match the curvature of the forward fuselage, and it dropped right into place. A quick dip in Future, and the clarity matched that of the kit clear parts for the rear canopy perfectly.

You can see in these photos too the CMK Ju-88C-6 nose piece that I grafted on, as the AIMS piece did not fit properly. A little more fettling with it and you won't be able to tell the difference (I hope).

Now that the front canopy is sorted out, some trimming will bring the rear canopy on the build shortly. Finishing up the MG 131 for the rear gunner, too.

Today also afforded me the opportunity to affix the horizontal tailplanes, and I have begun the seam work process on the fuselage, which on this build, is quite time consuming.

I'll continue to tackle the wings and engine nacelles next, too. I had hoped to use the AIMS engine nacelles, but mine were badly off kilter, and both engines tilted in towards the fuselage! So, I am converting the kit nacelles using some of the bits from the AIMS set to give the appearance of the correct engine variation.
