thierry laurent Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 A true hot rod! Is it only me but, from that angle, without spinners and with swastikas, she would look like a Me262 relative...? Jan_G, Troy Molitor, Out2gtcha and 1 other 4
Kagemusha Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Great box art. nmayhew, Troy Molitor and Out2gtcha 3

scimitarf1 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 The Whirlwind just missed the Battle of Britain - I always wonder how they would have done. The concentration of fire would have been awesome. It would also have been faster than any other fighter
Alburymodeler Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Looks like we might get a few boxings, the clean "Cannon Fighter" and then a bomber version. All is good. LSP_K2 1
scvrobeson Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Going off of their 1/72 kit, there'll be a few boxings of this. Especially since the box-art for this one is exactly the same as the 1/72 kit. Matt

The concentration of fire would have been awesome. It would also have been faster than any other fighter Hi I read many years ago at the pro/na that dowding ? or fighter cmd ? would not let them fly in the BoB, but they were all to be held in reserve in scotland as they were the only a/c capable of attacking army targets with the 20mm cannon in the event of invasion so most likely no matter how many were available they still wouldn't have flown in the BoB fights cheers jerry MikeMaben 1
fastterry Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Also like the Typhoon & Tempest they were best at low level and were probably unable to fight effectively at 25-30,000ft like the Hurricane & Spitfire. TRF LSP_K2 1

The concentration of fire would have been awesome. It would also have been faster than any other fighter There was an article on that very subject in the September 2020 issue of Aeroplane. Dowding deliberately chose not to use the Whirlwinds as it was too risky, not least because of the type's engine problems.
scimitarf1 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Thank you for that - it makes sense given that the Spits and Hurris were doing very nicely. Worth pointing out that the bombers came over in the BoB in the low teens altitude wise so this would not have been an issue.
Jan_G Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 another sprue test shot posted on SH page Out2gtcha, Troy Molitor, Kagemusha and 13 others 10 6
Out2gtcha Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Thanks Jan, those dont look bad at all to my eye..... Jan_G 1
adameliclem Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Well, that's a fine-looking test shot, isn't it? Surface details look really subtle and fine, the sprue gates impressively small and I have an impression that the trailing edges are quite sharp. Thanks, Jan. Adam Alain Gadbois 1
