Well I am sure that fix will be more than just a file and some sandpaper.

 

My plan is to remove the existing intake trunking from the bottom, and then re-install new trunking to create a larger intake mouth. That in my opinion is the root of the problem.

 

I have all weekend so I should be able to get at least one side done.

I think the "imagineering" is the fun part of doing full scratchbuilds. I have a couple I started on years ago laying around, I might dig one out someday and finish it. Unfortunately they are in the wrong scale..LOL  Keep up the good work.

Ok re-doing the intakes.  

 

In the first photo I have ripped out the top intake.

Next enlarge the opening and add a larger back plate.

Next install new intake trunking.

Sanding time. Also I have reinstalled the spine.

In my opinion a much better result this time. Now all I have to do is do the same thing on the other side.
