Ok I I don't understand all the hype and amazement for photo etch and resin add ones. I guess I'm old school but I prefer scratch building what I need to make the version or updates to a kit. I personally can't stand photo etch. Yes I've used it and it never works even when I research all the different techniques. Just some thoughts.

I can understand some not liking PE, as some parts can be frustrating.

After I picked up a small PE bener, it changed my modeling game.

Not quite the quantum leap my Silhouette cutter was in 2011 nor the next quantum leap this year with a new 3D printer but it definitely turned PE into a viable and highly detailed solution.

As far as the PE itself goes (stencils as well) Peters stuff is about as top notch as it comes.

Interesting first post. Welcome to the forums.

You say you prefer to scratchbuild; and you’ve tried photoetch and it never works..Seems to me if you have the skills to scratchbuild, manipulating photoetch should be pretty straightforward-

just some thoughts.

I understand your point of view and I concur with you.

Photo etching can be a solution to many problems but it’s not a universal remedy as we’re led to believe. I’m using PE like everyone else but I prefer NOT doing it if I have my choice.

My main gripe is how to make the brass bond securely and precisely on styrene. Same as polyurethane resin. It’s mainly a chemical issue.

It’s also a generational issue that we old timers of the plasticard-and-milliput school didn’t have to face.

Rest assured Mr Corley, you’re not alone. ;)
Cheers,

Quang
