Lovely as always Wolf!

I especially am impressed at the work done on the Inst panel coaming...lovely

Hello Anthony,

Thanks for checking in. Once the IP coaming is added to the rest of the cockpit the whole assembly is suitably busy and looks very much like a Corsair. Tamiya brilliance once again in giving us such a remarkable model.

Once the Corsair is done I sincerely hope to get back to my Mossie. That’s a warning I may need your help again.

Cheers,

Wolf

Wow!!! How did you make those little toggle switches next to the gunsight?

Amazing stuff!

Craig

Hi Craig,

Thank-you,

The multiple toggle switches on the arming panel are all part of the kit moulding. They look a little heavy before painting but look quite good afterwards surrounded by the dark background. The data stencils on the panel also contribute a lot to the overall appearance.

Wolf

That is some mighty fine work, Wolf.

Hey Mark,

Thank-you Sir! Someday I hope to achieve the same level and content of scratch building detail that you incorporate in to your builds. They’re always very inspirational to me my friend.

Cheers,

Wolf

Very sharp as usual Wolf.  Looking forward to further updates, Chuck.

Thanks ChuckT,

Always good to hear from you. I should have more updates soon as I’ve been working on a lot of sub assemblies.

Attention everybody this is an "excellent detail alert". I repeat, an "excellent detail alert".

Thank-you Bevan,

I do like my detail but it goes a very long way that Tamiya provide an incredible amount of detail to start. I absolutely love their kits. You definitely get what you pay for from them.

Wolf

I managed a bit more work on the ol' Corsair over the last couple of days. I have been putting these off but finally scratch built 4 cockpit lights, painted 'em and glued two in to place. The other two will be mounted in each bottom corner just inside the forward windscreen. I added the wire for the microphone mounted on the stbd cockpit side console and added the coupler at the end of the oxygen hose. Once that was done I was finally able to glue the cockpit assembly within the fuselage and glued the fuselage halves together. I took a few more photos of the cockpit before enclosing it. I'm still cleaning up a few seams and restoring rivet detail before taking pics of the completed assembly.

I also scratch built gun barrels and glued them in a staggered position within the lower wing halves. We must have guns eh? Like John, I'm not going to tape over the gun ports, so the ends of the barrels should be visible.

Go Wolf!

The little cockpit lights look amazing! Did you add photoetch to the front of them too? I've been putting off a lot of the little details too, but after having seen your effort, I need to get my act into gear.

The guns look awesome too. Do they not have guns for the kit or is it just that tube looks a lot more scale?

Man that cockpit looks sooo good!

Boy o boy, Wolf.  Where to begin to describe the loveliness of your work.  You've probably mentioned it earlier on in this thread, Who or what are the cockpit decals you are using?  And, What is your reference?  That 'M' on the throttle is great.

Corsair-24.jpg

There are 4 extrusions projecting from the lower left of the IP.  Above the red dots on the left console.  Are they throttle cables?  If they are, you MUST show a picture of them connecting to the sidewall throttle.  I would love to see that puzzle come together.

Thank you for the compliment, my friend.  I am inspired by you, too.

Sincerely,

Mark

Hi Craig,

Thank-you my friend. No, no photo etch on the front. Because the lamps face at a downward angle you actually can’t see the front face of the lamp when viewing down in to the cockpit. The black line towards the front of the lamp is my best effort at replicating the knurled portion of the lamp. For that I used Archer Fine Transfer micro weld bead. Making one of the lamps was fun. Making four of ‘em, all exactly the same, was a PITA!

The kit unfortunately doesn’t come with any representation of the six Brownings. Hence the need to make up something rather than just having a void in the openings.

Thanks for the compliment regarding the cockpit. Tamiya really have to be given a great deal of credit. Their Corsair kits are incredibly detailed from nose to tail straight OOB and we are very lucky indeed to have them produce such a model. Basically I’m guilting the lily with my extras.

Cheers,

Wolf

Greetings and salutations Mark,

The instrument decals are from Peter at Airscale. The rest of the data stencils come from Roy at BarracudaCals. These are a “must have” if building a Corsair as they add a dimension of detail we’d otherwise not have. They’re very small, a challenge to use, but worth every penny IMHO.

I see you noticed the M on the mixture control knob. :P Even more Fun was the SC within a white circle on the supercharger or blower control knob! OCD at it’s finest Dr. Mark!

The four rods protruding from the lower left of the IP are for the throttle, blower control, mixture control, and propeller control. They do indeed connect to the throttle quadrant.  Actually (luckily) they disappear below the throttle quadrant when the cockpit is placed within the fuselage so you can’t tell they don’t physically connect. It’s magic.........

Cheers,

Wolf
