Something old-school - scratch-built 1:32 Dart Kitten - using old and new tech!

Was going to try and finish this over Christmas (it's been a looong time since I finished anything) - but we were all a bit poorly over the break - and no modelling was done.

Catching up today and first colour is on: Xtreme Metal 'White Aluminium' over MRP Fine Grey Primer - and not looking too shabby I think.

Tailplane and rudder loosely placed:

The 'White Aluminium' works well for a silver doped finish IMHO.

Front cowl ready for scribing and a polished alloy finish:

I've been drawing up the wheels, legs and engine in Fusion 360 - test prints of some of the draft parts below - still some more work to do:

Next up some minor tweaks and then masking ready for the fuselage red - have drawn up masks for the aircraft registration.

Really want to get this one off the decks in the next few weeks.

Model on dudes!

I've only gone and done some actual model making!

Plucked up the courage to get some masks I'd drawn up, and cut on the digital cutter, onto the scratch built 1:32 Dart Kitten model at last - and get a coat of red on over the silver.

Has come out OK I think.

Need to do the wing registration letters next, masks for those are ready to go - maybe tomorrow evening...

Have fun!

Starting to really gel with Fusion 360 - faster progress and a lot less frustrating now! Aeronca E-113 engine and undercarriage parts for the Dart Kitten.

To give an idea of size the cylinder mounting holes in the block are 3mm dia.

Engine block:

Cylinder - will be mirrored left/right:

Wheel hub:

Undercarriage leg - hollow along the two 'tubes' to take a 1mm brass rod core:

Some more bits to design and then some test prints during the week, hopefully.

May appear to be a small step - but after fighting the software for months I'm finally ahead of the curve - or most of it anyway.

This will have a knock on for so many other projects that I've stalled progress on!  :)

Blue skies,

Iain

So when you started this build 7 years ago Iain, could you….would you…..have dreamed of designing and printing this engine yourself? How things change….exciting times but all a bit too late for this (moi!) old fart.
