After a bit of trawling through the stash, I've now settled on this kit for my entry into the Group Build:

Hopefully the connection to the GB theme is obvious! This is just a placeholder for now, as I'm trying not to start any new builds right now! I'm hoping to clear the bench enough to be able to kick this one off around mid-year, if not sooner.

In the meantime, if you'd like a closer look at the kit, Jeroen Peters reviewed it for us back in 2015:

I think closing down yet another WNW thread ( 7 alone started by the OP of the recently closed one) is not excessive. How much really is left to be said on the subject ?

TBH if people want to have wish lists , and endless debates over minutia , and grind their pet axes then why not have a separate part of the forum , or ask that all the debate is kept on one or two threads as on other forums , easier to ignore it all , less clutter, & saves repeating yourself on a whole new thread ...

Anyone familiar with the British Army forum will know what I mean , nb they have a less polite view /description .

If you want to mark it "Wish list ....Tamiya Wish list ....or just "WNW /Kotare/ 1/35 again" in the title that would be handy too. I'll skip it .

Over the years I've been on here, I can say, for my opinion, this forum consistently showcases some of the finest scale work to be seen anywhere , by genuinely gifted folk -way beyond where I will ever get in the hobby , heck there are plenty of people who manufacture kits for a living on here too .

LSP reviews and guides are outstanding , and the mod tolerance here is good , no redlining and "experten" flying around .

Personally I've drifted off a bit in the past 12 months because of the growing numbers who never seem to build anything but have to crack on endlessly about the industry , why this is wrong, what such and such should do etc etc. That most famous proponent (now departed) had 10,000+ posts, not one of which ever mentioned anything he built . I don't miss his presence. The endless rehashings ....be nice for them not to become what LSP is known for.

Oh and I'll have one of these from Kotare for Xmas please , a Blackburn Puffin Pellet .

Jesus, who pissed in all your cornflakes this morning? All this thread is about is the potential subjects WNW may have released - if you're not interested (and the thread title clearly states what the thread is about, so if you're annoyed with it then it's your own fault), then move along and read something else.

I have no interest in the Kotare Spitfires or their planned future releases, but you don't see me in that 19-page long thread going 'Oh man, this is sooo boring' like a petulant child.

Hm.  I could be wrong on this, but I think the only F-84Fs to carry nuclear bombs would have been the bare metal ones, and if so, that doesn't seem to work well with models having lots and lots of 3-D layer lines.

Going through the kit, I saw three areas in need of attention:

The main gear bays, the engine intake, and the instrument panel. Here is a better pic of the IP:

The detail is pretty faint. I doubt I could make it look good trying to paint it. I will remove most of the detail and add Aeroscale decals and whatever PE bezels best fit. I have collected them for years:

The engine intake is lacking details such as various boxes, piping, etc. I will add those, shouldn't be a problem.
As for the wheel wells, they are too shallow and no piping. I will add the hydraulics, but I am not going through the pain of deepening them. Too much work, plus that would cause problems with bottom of cockpit/exhaust pipe fit. As it is, I am going to have to do some carving and slicing to make them fit.

Generally the Lukgraph models are good.
I prefer the older kits having the struts made of cast resin with wire reinforcement.

I have also their new  Hawker Nimrod, which has the struts 3d printed  from VERY fragile plastics.
Center section struts already came broken. I am about to make a silicone moulds and cast all the struts (interplane+center+undercarriage) with some wire reinforcement.

Something which can be done but I would prefer a 200+ Eur kit to be ready to be built right off the shelf.
Cast brass would be nice as the kit is significatly heavier than a regular injection molded kit.  (and the struts are lot weaker than  the injected ones)

The Thunderstreak was the very first real airplane I ever set eyes on as a lad.
Still there to this day, although in a bit of a sad state...............

Here I am showing my Williams Bros Gee Bee R-1 which I have just finished after several years on the shelf of delay.  It depicts the 1932 Thompson Trophy winner and was flown by Jimmy Doolittle.
It's made OOB except for the propeller hub, which I remade from aluminum.

I did not include the thin black pinstripes separating the red and white colors as I could not think of a way to produce them in scale.
The pilot figure is from Immense Miniatures.

They could do a MiG-15 and/or MiG-17.  There is not a single good -17 available on the market, and the -15 is (a) resin, (b) expensive, and (c) apparently not built much, considering how few HpH kits I've ever seen completed.

I'm in with this - the 1/32 Alley Cat (ex. Montex) Hawker Fury, which covers both silver and 25 as I'll be making it in the markings of 25 Squadron.

I have both the original Montex and this Alley Cat version. Whilst the latter has many improvements over the original, including the addition of a clear resin windscreen replacing the flat acertate sheet provided by Montex, it also has generaly less crisp castings and (I suspect) a poorer fit. We shall see if I regret this choice, and should instead have gone with the brand new Aviattic Pfalz D.VIII...!

First step - checking the kit contents are all there and giving them a gentle wash.

I recall a modeler (sadly died some years ago) who used SNJ aluminum powder rubbed with a rag over glossy black enamel paint.  The effect was incredible.  He did warn that you had to be careful as to when to rub in the powder; the closer to dry the black undercoat, the more mirror-like the finish, but if you waited too long the finish was too fragile to take any handling.

    This is discussed here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/79375-using-snj-powder-to-create-a-nmf-finish/

    Another search led me here:

    https://www.c1-models.com/c1-metalizer/

This might work as a substitute for SNJ, which may be hard to find; it appears to use the same method as SNJ.

Mark_C reacted to 19squadron in Looks like Eduard is reassessing 1/32
I completely disagree about Kotare, think whatever you like about the Fit and engineering, but te Kotare Spitfire is really badly researched by comparision to an Eduard Spitfire - the Kotare is bad as far as the big forms go, and the Kotare cockpit is a complete muddle..... An Eduard 1/48 Spitfire MkI scaled up to 1/32 would be infinitely better than the Kotare effort.

  25. Confused
Mark_C reacted to 19squadron in Looks like Eduard is reassessing 1/32
Their Spitfires are well ahead of the Kotare effort already, far more accurate in the essential form, the wing especially, and although there are issues with the Eduard they have made far far fewer mistakes with the details - the cockpit for instance which is a proper muddle in the Kotare kit, so I would very much welcome an Eduard Spitfire Mk I, although I suspect Vladimir S is talking about more versions of a Me109 in 1/32, an F, G and a K I would summise.

Lets hope for a more accurate Spitfire MkI and MkII from Eduard though!
