Entered in local IPMS contest this weekend, no awards. Very disappointed. I did talk to one judge who pointed out a few things, nothing major. You can see the false image left on the wing walkway lines (the wet transfer left what look like decal film impressions) and another smudge/mark on the alerion actuator on the left wing. Also mentioned the tail looked slightly misaligned. Other than that looked good. But another plane that finished top 3 had silver decals all over it and a pebble finish...not sure how I finished behind that one. Spent a lot of time on this and got a lot of good feedback from my local chapter guys on the build.
Most of those items I can fix. Not sure how to fix the tail (I'm having a hard time seeing that). Just frustrated to finish behind two other kids that IMO were just not nearly as good. But of course I'm biased. FTR, I don't think the judges were biased in any way.
I wouldn't worry about it, a long, long time ago I entered a competition at my Dad's works with a Tamiya 1/35 Stuart tank, it was disqualified as they thought it was metal, I'd just simulated the paint worn off, I did try to plead my case saying it was plastic, picking it up to show how light it was, they weren't having any of it, was better than the winning model, I find it really funny now.

As posted on Britmodeller.
"Hello from proud Canada !
For your information.
A renowned Canadian model maker who wishes to remain anonymous for the moment have recently started a quite interesting project for a 1/32 scale kit
of the Canadair CT-114 Tutor.
Initially started as a 1/48 project in 2022, and with the arrival of the Kinetic offer to come at this scale the project have now evolved to be at 1/32 scale.
This Canadian model maker will eventually identify himself here on this new topic and send us detailed updates on his project.
The modeling of the project is 90% complete.
If all goes well, the kit could be scheduled for release in the fall of 2025.
It will be completely produced in 3D printing resin except for the canopy which will be made of two clear injected plastic parts allowing closed or open
cockpit options.
Two cockpits will be available :
The legacy analog cockpit and the brand new digital glass cockpit integrated last year on the current Tutor Snowbirds fleet .
Pilots are also planned, one in a standing position and one in seated position.
The decals will be produced by an internationally renowned decal printer and will include markings of the ''Snowbirds'' canadian national team (2024 version)
and the ''Golden Centenaires'' national team of the 1967 era.
The quantities to be produced are not yet known
For the moment, this canadian model maker has allowed me to share with you some 3D / CAD images of his project."😎👍
SharkOwland the real thang to whet the appetite...

Great to see posting the build resumed, shame about the decals, I have the same set, might put some varnish over prior to using, just in case.

Just had a piece on the news, what always shines through is how humble they were.
RIP hero.

Hey folks! I'm a retired Navy veteran. And I am pretty much candid with my thoughts, but not offensive. I have built numerous 1/32nd scale planes, plastic RC boats, static car displays and Estes/Centuri rockets. So I thought the 1/32 Tamiya F-14 60313 was bad because where the 2 halves of the forward fuselage pairs up besides the air intakes there is a 1/16th inch gap. I even sent pictures to Tamiya customer service and they sent me new sprues. But the same issue persisted on the new sprues. So masking & sanding was my only way to proceed with assembly. Do you guys apply putty and sand too?
Now let's talk the Revell F/A-18 kit 03847. This sprues for this kit need be beefed up in firmness, especially the wing & rudder control surfaces are too flimsy. Moving the sprue trees around on the top of my work bench too much resulted in the tiny little fins for the rockets (or other tiny parts) falling off and sometimes unknowingly falling onto the floor and then they're gone with the next visit of our home robo-vacuum. I built mine wheels wells closed. And there is a 1/16th inch gap where the front landing gear doors do not close completely that I had to close up with putty.
Now for the vertical stabilizers. (fins). The tabs that protrude from the bottom of each assembled fin to insert into the 1 inch long hole on the rear of the fuselage do not even come close to a 'snap-in' fit, for stability while gluing them on. They do not go into the fuselage far enough that would allow me to use rubber bands or masking tape to position them in place for gluing. (I use old insulin syringes for gluing). The bottom surfaces of the fins to the fuselage are a complicated surface design to pair up due to the multiple angles & contours of the parts. So once again I am getting out the masking tape, putty and sandpaper.
So do you guys experience similar issues with other large scale models? Got any secrets or a tricky yet cool little technique you can share with me?
Thank You!
Firstly, thank you for your service, and
It would be useful to read builds of kits you intend to build to see any potential pitfalls, and creative solutions, by all accounts the Revell Super Hornet is something of a dog, however there is a build here, and one of the Tamiya Tomcat here, just glean from the builds what you find useful, apologies in advance if I sound patronising, not my intention, it's difficult at times when not communicating face to face.
Maybe try an easier model such as the Trumpeter A-4 next, really good build here, and finished model here.

Definitely intake covers, as well as sensor covers.
Just posting this photo because I like the subject.
I would say camera covers for the RF-5E, but you'd probably only sell, maybe one set.
