tucohoward
Thanks, guys. A little more progress. The last of the riveting with the landing gear doors. Went ahead and painted and weathered them just to be done. A little weathering on the upper engine cowlings and drop tank as well. I have Uschi masks for the wing walks somewhere but couldn't find them (way too much modelling stuff) so I apprehensively went with the kit decals since they actually seem pretty good. Anyone who builds 109s knows the wing walk decals are the hardest to make disappear but these are probably the best I have used. All the main markings are painted with Maketar masks. A little hairspray chipping. Put on the prop and rudder just to see what it will look like. . Uncarina
That’s extremely good! Almost at the finish line. I know, I know, adding those last myriad details takes forever, but she’s taking shape. Cheers, Tom tucohoward
Greif8
Hi Jay, I just got caught up with your build - simply outstanding work! You have certainly done justice to the ZM kit. Ernest tucohoward and Uncarina

tucohoward
Thanks, guys, I appreciate the support! Small up date as I was mostly doing stencil decals this evening. One of the things I think is pretty much required in our scale is the tether cable for the canopy. On the Erla haube canopy it goes from the canopy release mechanism, which Z-M gives you, and the head armor. I used to do it with fine copper wire which was difficult to get perfectly straight. Then I started doing WNW kits and learned about rigging. I drilled a hole and used a Bob's Buckles anchor eyelet and will run a section of fishing line when all is said and done. I have waited to paint the area behind the seat because I think it will easier to mask around the fuselage than deal with the battery box on a G-14. Thunnus
Looking like a proper Gustav now, Jay! I love the anchor for the canopy tether... great detail! tucohoward
tucohoward
Thanks, John. Finishing up the stencils. Cartograph so very nice. I decided to go with strips of decal to represent the tape over the wing/wingtip joint. I have several JaPo books that show it as a visible strip on a number of their profile diagrams. G-10s granted, but they were producing G-14s at WNF prior to that. They list it as "a sticky tape". The JaPo books are fantastic and a must for 109 guys. I will tone them down with weathering, which I'm looking forward to doing. Sweet, my Sprue Black Friday order just showed up so I have two more of these:) Jay Kais, Isar 30/07, TankBuster and 16 others

tucohoward
Thanks, fellows! Been working more on the weathering and attaching smaller parts. It's getting there. Tail wheel was easy to install after the fact. Main wheels can move around a lot on the axle stubs so you need to take care there. There was a pretty big gap on the angled top part of the rudder to the fin so I did add a shim to the rudder and repainted it. Windscreen fit very well. Remembered that you can't have the drop tank on it and open the lower engine cowling so I decided to close it up. Required removing a few of the pipes for clearance but no issues. monthebiff
Really nice Jay, great choice of colour scheme! I'm half tempted to have the engine cowls open as the engine is so nicely detailed but not 100% sure yet. Regards. Andy tucohoward
