Hi Iain, sorry for not commenting on this sooner...

Lovely work going on here, and vacforming canopies IS a bit of a dark art as I discovered when I did my T.9 conversion!

Thanks for the help with mine, and maybe we'll get them both together on a table at a show before your client nabs it! :-)

Keep up the good work,

Dean

Cheers Dean,

Read your mag article!

I've never really had issues with vaccing canopies before - I think most of the issue with this is that the sides of the 'tunnel' section are perfectly flat and, therefore, show even the very smallest flaw. The main, sliding, part is a lot more forgiving!

The model will be gone before we get a chance to get both models together - and I'm hoping to get her finished as soon as I can now!  :frantic:

Really quick and dirty images this evening - want to crack on with fixing some more panel lines - and scribing the radio hatch door which, on the two-seaters, is moved to the starboard side of the fuselage.

All cowling fixing holes drilled out - and new ones created around firewall.

Waiting for some decal film that's been sprayed brown to dry - this will be cut into very thin strips and applied to the frames to replicate the strips on the real airframe between frames and cowl panels.

Some of the 'shading' around detail to be softened.

Exhausts will be subtly weathered when I get to that stage.

More soon...

Sorry - just realised no updates last few weeks - have been busy painting and I like to take a good few days between any paint layers, before progressing to the next.

Sky fuselage band all done, Medium Sea Grey undersides and Ocean Grey upper-surfaces done.

Fresh supplies of BluTack acquired - so should mask up and spray the Green later today.

Looking good under the paint - all the worked on areas appear to have blended in nicely.

Will try and post some photos...

Finally - the green is done and all masking removed.

A few touch-ups and she's in the airing cupboard overnight before I mask up and spray the yellow leading edges.

Means I might just get the gloss varnish on tomorrow in prep for the main decals.

Off to grab a wee dram to celebrate!  :beer4:

Some photos - yellow leading edges sprayed this morning - needs to dry - a couple of very minor Ocean Greay touch ups that I need to do, and I can gloss her.

Paints are the Tamiya ones they developed specially for the Mk.IX kit - a little patchy surfave finish in photos - but the gloss coats will bring everything together nicely.
