A three figure kit would probably be a special edition with a book and a shedload of etch, löök etc
Remember you can buy bells-and-whistles 1:48 Profipacks for about £30-40 and weekend editions for £25ish.
I'm guessing a Weekend edition 1:32 Spitfire might actually come in at around £55-60, an overtrees set for £35-40. A Profipack without a limited edition book and pilot figure for £75.

Now, Eduard's figures may differ of course, and they may just want-in on the £100-is-now-normal Tamiya, GWH and Kotare single-engined prop avenue, but I think they'd be missing a trick not to slide in with cocked guns just behind Kotare and Tamiya. And blast away.

And the Spitfire IXc is a good-looking mark to start with, assuming they do actually bite into 1:32 scale.

A top shelf Spitfire Mk.IX should sell rather well, it is the best known version.
Yes Tamiya is hard to beat but that's not necessarily the goal, a different kit with an equally impressive surface and possibly a better detailed cockpit out of the box with more options would do the trick I think.
Tamiya or Revell Spitfires do not put any money into Eduard's pocket.

The Hyperscale form now has Ask Eduard section and Validimr Sulc responded to an inquiry about 1/32 contenders.  He confirmed that 1/32 is in consideration and said the the most likely candidates are the Fw 190 A, Bf 109G, and Spitfire IX...

" But realistically, if we have to go to 1/32, it'll be a Fw 190 A or a Bf 109G or a Spitfire, and quite possibly it'll be a Spitfire, because we actually have a finished design for a Spitfire Mk.IX that we didn't release  about 15 years ago, because Tamiya released it first. So the quickest way to get a new 1/32 kit from Eduardo is to modify the old Spitfire Mk.IX design to current parameters and standards and we're done. "

RBrown reacted to sillymodeler in Ki-61-I Hien “飛燕” in the Papua New Guinea (Hasegawa 1/32)
    Hello everyone.

This is my last finished 1/32 Hasegawa, Ki-61-I “飛燕 (Hien)”

I chose this model as I still wanted to explore metal cladding. Hien is a suitable aircraft for this purpose because it was shipped from the factory in bare metal and then various camouflages were applied by units. I used the usual kitchen aluminum foil and water-soluble glue for the metal cladding.
The hand-painted random camouflage applied to Hien is another attractive point for modelers. So, I hand-painted a crooked camouflage pattern on the fuselage and wings with an airbrush like a mechanic of the time. It was the most enjoyable thing in this build.  One of the advantages of metal cladding is that you can redo the camouflage paint as many times as you like.

Unlike other Japanese airplanes, Hien was equipped with a liquid-cooled DB601 engine produced under license. However, it suffered from low reliability and low mission-capable rates due to insufficient craft quality and frontline supply, and the inexperience of mechanics on liquid-cooled engines. However, as long as it was up and running, it performed as well or better than its elder brother Bf109E.

I adopted a paint scheme inspired by the 68th squadron that fought in Papua New Guinea. The squadron was one of the first to receive the newly developed Hien. Papua New Guinea was far from its homeland and probably one of the harshest battlefields in WW2. Many died not only from battle but also from starvation and disease as supply lines were destroyed. It is said during the war: “Java is paradise, Burma is hell, and you can't return home from New Guinea even if you die”. Actually, most of the members of the 68th squadron, as well as many other soldiers, are still lying there.

It’s basically OOB build. I just used metal gum barrels and pitot tube. The squadron marking is a combination of hand-painting and some extra decals. I also slightly modified Hasegawa’s lovely kit figure to one that resembles tropical pilot uniforms. (One more thing, I would like you to assume that my model is a reproduction of an aircraft whose tailwheel was lost in an accident on the battlefield. The tailwheel is still lying somewhere in my room.)

I hope you all enjoy the model. Sorry for my plastic cup as usual!

I totally agree with you.  I find the mod's heavy-handed approach to thread drift disappointing.   Giving the demographics on this site and the inevitable decline in the number of members, I would think any discussion that people are passionate about would be welcomed and encouraged instead of being locked down.   As long as the discussion remains civil, let it go wherever it goes.     I recall another site that that tried to regulate posting by locking threads and bouncing members, it's pretty much on life support these days, some forums haven't had a post in months.    SMH...

Another thread has been closed in recent days.

Whereas, in the realm of 1/32 aircraft model building I have a whole hive and a half of bees in my bonnet, I hope my responses - in whatever thread - comply with each thread's stated topic. My alternative, should compliance not be appropriate, is to start a new thread, a choice we all share.

Discussing thread closure is not a criticism of our excellent moderators; no, no. My question is a genuine enquiry. What are the gains or losses associated with keeping our responses to threads on topic?

Of course I get distracted, beat the bushes, and make links with other matters. Who doesn't? However, thread closure is an important issue, inmho.

DBMK models have posted a thank you on their Facebook page to Duxford for letting them 'LIDAR' their Spitfire 24.
When asked what scale they planned they confirmed it would be 1/32.
I'm guessing that we're probably a couple of years away from any potential release after the Sea Fury, Hornet & Tiger unless they bump it up their schedule.
Good news if it comes to fruition as the Matchbox kit needs to be replaced with a state of the art model.
It's taken a long time but between DBMK & Laminar Flow Designs, the big Griffons are finally getting some well deserved large scale love.

More transparency work of late, this time huge steps have been taken with the canopy.

The kit part was always suspect in my opinion - it just looked too big, windscreen shape was totally off and the sides too vertical:

Something like this would really bug me, so I was thinking about making my own by either doing a master and vacforming it or alternatively doing the framing, much like the bomb aimer’s section, and dropping in the clear pieces using acetate.

Then I had an idea… why not get in touch with one of the greatest model makers of our time, Peter at Airscale?

    And low and behold…

And a comparison with the kit part:

Here we now have a beautifully printed cockpit framing that will sit on top of a new vac canopy. As the pictures show I originally cut the fuselage to fit the kit part so some work is going to be needed here to get the fit right, but I’m delighted with Peter’s handy work!

I’m currently working in finishing off the gear bays so the cockpit will have to wait for a while, but for once I can’t wait to get started on the cockpit and it’s interior - which is usually a job I hate!

    More when there’s more…

    thank you all, buddies!

I glued the flaps at 30° in a completely arbitrary way responding only to an aesthetic need: being electric they weren't subject to the typical drop due to the absence of hydraulic pressure, and seeing them at their maximum extension (60°) seemed really excessive to me.
unfortunately the photos of the complete plane are horrible, the tools I have at my disposal don't allow me to do better. so for the moment I refrain from creating an RFI folder, let's see if Santa Claus is moved and gives me a decent camera!

wanting to make some final considerations on this kit, I can only talk about it very well, the very few problems encountered along the way I created them.
it's so well done and satisfying, as well as reproducing the lines of an aircraft unique in its beauty, that it makes me want to make others, perhaps one with the tail of the Ta152, we'll see...

thanks again to everyone for their participation and encouragement, without which something else would have come out, undoubtedly worse.

    cheers, Paolo

Eduard has covered most of the sub types in the smaller scales and has abandoned the Buchon, but may not be done with the Bf 109, and Salc states, "I might have to change my mind about 1:32..."
