Later boxing of the old Revell Kit. Built one as a kid in the early 80s - seems like a thousand years ago. Looking through the plastic now, impressions are that the shape is good, the engraved panel lines a bit deep and wide but not terrible and that pretty much all of the detail areas - wheel wells, intakes, cockpit, landing gear, tires/wheels, weapons, etc could/should basically be tossed and replaced by aftermarket. I do have some of that already as I have been planning a Tomcat build for awhile but not 100% certain if I want to try to apply all that to this kit. New decals are a must - I do have Zotz Miss Molly but again not sure if this is the build to use those on or not. A late 70s VF-1 scheme also has appeal - I liked the 78 cruise where they first had the overall gloss light gull grey scheme - looked sharp. Decisions, decisions.....

I always thought the Beaufighter a bit of an oddity; how many twin engines have the props forward of the nose?

Regardless, I'm going to give it a go. I started by attaching the inner wing uppers to the fuselage halves.

For it's age, I got a decent fit with minimal gap. The real reason for doing it first is because of the cockpit floor...

The kit cockpit floor level is much too high; in actuality, the floor is on the same level as the bottom of the wing.  The lower wing is taped in place here.

A floor support glued in place, then cut at the join between the fuselage and lower wing.

Next up is to drill out cannon openings, cobble up some 20mm barrels, and cut the floor to fit.

I'm doing one of these beauties, haven't decided which individual aircraft yet but I have a tenuous connection with 56 squadron so:

Hopefully will make a start tomorrow afternoon, otherwise Thursday.  (Is it my old eyes, or is the tail fin of the middle Tiffy a different shape?)

This is my entry to the Jurassic Plastic GB. The venerable Hasegawa Storch. I am using the Indochina rebox but it is the same plastic as the initial release only with new decals. I will add the Eduard pe set to detail the cockpit and will go for a very colorful bird in Swiss service during WWII. It will for sure add a splash of color in my collection of airplane and armor. Box shot and pictures of the aftermarket I will use. I have the eduard mask and some resin wheels on order with Hannants but I will get started right away. I am looking forward to a fun GB.

Washed the kit bits and cut the resin from the pour stubs

Adding Barracuda Cast Seat, Wheels with Eduard Sutton Harness. Kit decals along with some Tiffy specific stenciling will lay ontop of Vallejo paints.
I will be detailing the cockpit, wheel wells and thats about it.

I need to finish my 1/72 Foray then I will dive into this beast.

Can't find this boxing on scalemates or lsp, but I think it's old.
I think this'll be my first attempt ever at British camouflage...looks easier than rlm mottling.

Decals are more or less useless. Will cut some masks instead I think.

This was a challenge a monday morning. Edit: But as this is actually a tuesday, I don't know.

OK. This is just to kick-off the GB and mark my presence. I need to focus first a bit more on my on-going builds.

But I will participate, and take an opportunity to take TWO boxes out of the stash, by building simultaneously the Gee Bee R-1 and Gee Bee R-2 from Williams Bros. The kit allows to build both versions (the R-1 had a big P&W Wasp, and a large-opening cowling, the R-2 had a P&W Wasp Jr and a small opening cowling) and supplies the decals and cowlings for both.

I will use AM engines most likely. The representation of the Wasp in the kit is OK, but not great, and it is a very visible item in this diminutive aircraft. I will use a Vector Wasp. For the Wasp Jr, the kits falls really short, but this will be a great reason to complete my 3D design of the Wasp Jr, and get it printed. I also found on eBay some vac-formed canopies that will be more realistic than the kit's thick transparencies.

I have no date for the kits, but in one box, I found an ad for registering for the IPMS-USA which featured the 1981 issues of their magazine. Anyway I very well remember building this kit in the late 70s .

Here is the kick-off pic with both boxes. They are of different vintage. The oldest one had a box-top opening and is molded in white, whereas the youger one has a side opening and is molded in grey.

    See you soon

Here's my entry into the GB:

It looks like Revell removed the original Matchbox copyright and logos getting the mould here:

I'm painting to deviate a bit from the instructions in the hope that it'll make assembly easier, particularly around the wing root area.

As for AM, I'm going to throw a bit at it, mostly some leftover Tamiya bits and new belts.

Morning all!! I'm going to enter the Revell F-15E built as a JASDF Aggressor. Kit was molded originally in 1982, this appears to be an original issue.

Will add some aftermarket, Two Bobs decals, AMS ECM pod,  and True Details seats.

Will also be adding drop tanks and exhaust cans from an ill fated Tamiya build.

I always have a hard time focusing on one build at a time, so I'll enter this one as well in addition to the Mustang. Another great oldie in the form of Revell's F-14 Tomcat. I have the Wolfpack speedbrake and refueling probe, Phoenix pitot/AOA probes, Teknics cockpit, Black Box cockpit, Quickboost seats, Eduard etch, HAD etch, Zacto AIM-9's, Brassin AIM-7's, and hopefully Eli's new Tomcat decals to do an early VF-21 bird. This will be done in-flight, with a neat idea for a stand that I'll reveal a bit later.

Short touchdown on the main gear!

Still need some more wash and dust on the tires.

Rescribing of panel lines is taking quite some time, but I'm getting there.

I've been working a bit with the actuators.

    First one, testfit.

    The other three.

Now I just need to paint them and glue in place.

I also tried my Etreme Metal colors, I bought recently.
First a layer of gloss black, let dry and then on with matte alumnium.

OMG how shiny they turned out!

I need to try this color on a NMF plane!
The color smells pretty much though.
