quang got a reaction from Brock in WNW - What Might Have Been...
Let’s face it. WNW was but a rich person’s whim. It came at the right moment to create a small following and died off when the owner’s thrill was gone.
Modern-day manufacturers like Border Models and MiniArt also raised the injected plastic kits to a new standard BUT they did it without the tra-la-la. As always it’s the fanfare which annoys me.

I’ve been a fan of WWI and between-the -wars biplanes long before they became the fad… but curiously I was never impressed by WNW.
Now I know why.

I should have warned you earlier but Nam Bolts had NO corrugated floor. Ah well!

quang reacted to Erwin in Ar196 - Revell or HPH?
It's made of seperate sides and tops.
Easy to mess up with glue.

quang got a reaction from mozart in *COMPLETED* Trumpeter 1:32 P-47 Thunderbolt ‘Bubble-top’
I think you’d need less extended masking if you lower your air pressure. But it’s only me

I also used to think that.
Until I recently found that with modern metal model paints, pigments are much, much finer than before and that one can nowadays play with the opacity of the metallic paints. Something we couldn’t do in the older days.
On my current MiniArt P-47 build, I only used one single metallic paint (Mr Hobby Super Metallic 2). The tonal variations were achieved by varying the contrasts in the gloss black/gloss white base and playing with the metallic paint opacity.

Ha! indeed, the sempiternal inter-service rivalry.
Some Air Farce jocks tried to instigate folding wings. But since the Jug’s wingspan was not over-long, the decision was to fold just a small portion of the wing tip à la A6M2. It’s still unclear whether the project was brought to fruition, but wing-folded Jugs were spotted by IPMSers at Phu Cat AB in April 1968.

Great progress. I like the authentic details.
Don’t forget the obligatory deck landing guide for Navy Bolts, which also served as a convenient helmet hanger.

quang got a reaction from Archimedes in Varnishes
As far as I remember, you can use lacquer over enamel but NOT enamel over lacquer.
If you use Future/Klir, just one quick coat with the brush is enough but make sure that all the recesses are covered. You don’t need to achieve a glass-smooth surface.

My usual go-to finishing varnish is Gunze/Mr Color GX100 lacquer, dries very fast and goes from near flat to gloss depending on the number of coats you apply.
Having said that, these days I’m using Future (Klir or whatever they call it) floor wax for small intricate surfaces like cockpit interiors and wheel wells.
It has the consistency of water and dries in minutes. I apply it quickly with a flat, soft brush. A thin coat is enough to protect the enamel before the wash.

quang got a reaction from TAG in MASTERS is here!
As much as I was enthusiastic about the 5 first episodes, I’m UTTERLY disappointed by Episode 8.
Cardboard characters, Disney-like cgi Mustangs, even the alleged streets of Paris wouldn’t convince an occasional Buryat tourist.
Tuskegee airmen attacking Wehrmacht positions in the Côte d’Azur, probably looking for Brigitte Bardot? C’mon
I just checked the first 4 episodes (pretty good) were directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
Episodes 5&6 (the best IMO) were directed by Ana Boden & Ryan Fleck
Episodes 5&8 (where the series flirted with ridicule) are directed by Dee Rees
The upcoming episode 9 is also directed by Dee Rees.
If it turns out to be as ridiculous as the previous two, we’ll know precisely who’s behind the fiasco.

It is the canopy. By the way it was also sold separately by Hph.

quang got a reaction from Lud13 in Make the others jealous
On my apparently unstoppable stride to downgrade my modelling tools, I bought this Gaahleri airbrush for 52 euros (they’re even cheaper in the US).
I’d be curious to know how it fares against my trusty but more expensive Creos Procon PS-270 and 289.
I’ll let you know.
Cheers,
Quang
