It’s got some markings on it, and I used a highly thinned & lightened coat of each base colour to ‘bleach’ the decals a little.

Photo’s of similar examples have shown them to be bleached almost white, and with practically no markings on them apart from national insignia, and a few warnings around the nose. I didn’t want to go that far with the weathering of it.

I love this technique!  Well done and I'll be delighted to copy it.  Looks GREAT.  Chris

  2. Congrats!  At least you didn't get the P-39 which was the worst-fitting and engineered kit I have ever built.  Seems like several people I know who built the kit all had different problems putting it together.  But that was one of their earlier kits.  The newer kits are seeing much better reviews.  Good luck!

  3. Folks,

My addled brain seems to have lost a chunk of my previous Mustang knowledge but I'm not sure I ever had a good handle on this particular question.  Looking to start up some Mustang builds and back to the age old NMF vs Aluminum Lacquer question.  I'm NOT asking for the demarcation lines of what was where.  I do have those discussions and reference pics saved up.  Now I'm back to what colors are best to reflect NMF and AL.

    Cheers all!

Perhaps, it is best if I don't post it  in the GB. I made a mistake when I first did the conversion, used a really weird epoxy as a filler to build up the new wing tips. I recollect how much of a monster it was to get the surface contoured and smooth. Well, it's still being a real pain, the scribing does not go well. The stuff is like concrete and dulled my file. Down hill from there.

Sounds like time to throw some tarps over the wing tips and call it a 'maintenance activity'...  Wet tissue paper can be a REAL FRIEND at times!  :beer4:

I'm as guilty as anyone. I probably have 30 WiP threads here, none of which are finished.

Ditto!  I am PLANNING on getting back to my Me-262 build this month.  The days just keep getting away from me.  At least, I'm not quite up to the two years it took me to finish Big Beautiful Doll!

  6. I've probably placed a few dozen orders with SprueBrothers over the past several years, including some 'unusual' orders for our annual club competition so have had a lot of interaction with the SB customer service.  Never had a problem with them, and actually had one of the reps give me her personal cell phone number so i could reach her immediately in case there was a problem with the order.  More normally, I let them know of a problem with a product ( a broken nozzle on a tube of putty ).  They immediately sent a second tube, with apologies for the packing mistake (the tube must have gotten jammed into the box, breaking the nozzle).

Had similarly great service from Barracuda Studios.  There are some bad players out there, but for the most part, our hobby acts like small businesses who like contact and interaction with their customers (Archers Fine Transfers, Eduard, Special Hobby, Tamiya (!), ZM, etc) so deliver pretty good customer service.  Of course, there is always the opportunity for a failure.  But overall, I'm pretty happy dealing with most of the folks who supply our hobby.

But this is a good site to hear if there are consistent CS problems, or is it a once-in-a-while problem.
