The paint/weathering process has started. Before continuing to the fuselage, i have decided to do some tests on the wing, it's easier
to correct any errors or cleaning the paint off if necessary.
It's always a challenge to paint large surfaces in only one color, giving the surface an interesting appearance.
So I have decided to put my favorite weathering technique to use, salt weathering.

The wing has been primed with Mr. Surfacer with some preshading. This has been covered with some layers of white primer...
Then the wing was given a spray of water + salt. I started with a light brownish color for the first layer. Secondly more salt + a darker
grey-ish was painted, mostly along the edges of the panels. The photo shows the result when starting to remove the salt.

Next step: A light sanding of the paintwork + future. After this, a dark wash is applied to bring out some of the features of the surface.

    Bottom wing - Same procedure...

Exhaust stains applied to the wing...

    De-icer edges applied...

The exhaust stubs are scratched to the type on early PBY's...

    Wing inner construction in place.

    Elevators and rudder dirty'ed up.

For now I'm happy with the dirty worn look, I'm reluctant to add more before the plane is assembled.

Feathered propeller of the port engine.

The finished upper wing. I have not added the details, panels etc. They might get broken off when the wings has to be installed later.

    Thanks for looking in: Kent

Yes, Revell, get on with making a SAAB J.35 Draken - would sell huge numbers, and could be reboxed every other year with a different colour scheme, most of them not especially "military" and therefore with broader appeal.

thank you for your comments !
I'm now working on lower surfaces with white marbling and streaking. This will then be balanced with a dark grey and some dirt shade on some spot areas ( which I started with touches of UK Hemp shade on engine nacelles ), and of course, blended all together. Still a long way to go !

I have followed some trusty modeller's advice and replaced the wing seal bags. I had no milliput left and this is a product I dont like to work with. I found some modelling clay that proved to be very pleasant to work with as it is not very sticky. But it also showed some cons such as  a long time of curing entirely and a bit of recessing. as it looked stabilized I sprayed some Surfacer and a few craks still appeared on the surround. I think I have it know fully stabilized and spudged some cyano glue into the cracks. I'm not sre if this product was better than Milluput....50/50 I would say !

And between coats of surfacer and to change a bit, I needed a bit of painting to I started the engines:

I used some carbon fiber decals, that were particulary thin and rigid, they didnt react to my solvents so I had to use a hairdryer to conform them !

and at last some paint !

    and some sanding !

    best christmas regards

    I know! I know!
Thanks to the special agents of the The Vulgarian Secret Service the gentlemen who rurWNW were given the plans of the WW1 version of the Japanese Kate and the Val. I bet none of you guys knew, or even suspected that many of the early WW2 Japanese aircraft were really developed during WW1. Hah! Surprised you didn't I? Well they were. Who knew? The Japanese were so secretive back in those days.  Anyway the real story is that an alien spacecraft (flying saucer) was contacted by the Vulgarian STC department (Space Time Continuum) and arrangements were made to "borrow" some of the Japanese aeronautical engineers, move back in time to 1915 and deposited in a secret  way underground aircraft factory where the Val and Kate were designed and prototypes manufactured for the use of the Vulgarian Air Force. Vulgaria was not at war with anyone (they try not to be) but it was thought prudent to have an advanced air force in case they were attacked by any poltroons then fighting in WW1.
As  we all know the war ended prematurely at 11 AM November 11, 1918) so no ne of these advanced aircraft were needed.  Thus the Japanese engineers were beamed back to their own time in the 1930s and they completed the aircraft for the use of the Japanese armed forces. And nobody was the wiser.
However WNW found out about this and the next two 1/32 models the WNW will produce will be the Japanese Val and Kate.
    Isn't that wonderful?

I have it on good authority it's going to be the DH Ltd. ( Dog House ) Mk. III in late war colors..single seat of course. The two seater was nothing more than a rough sketch and never put into production..

    Hello,

one further project I am working on at the moment...

The Soviet truck ZIL-157 in 1/35 of Trumpeter, plus the photo etched parts of Eduard (mainly for the engine hood and interior), resin wheels and lenses from SKP.

The crane is a super kit of Z+Z Exclusive Models, consisting of several Resin parts in good quality and a huge fret of photo etched parts for the smaller details and for the jib (which needs to be soldered).

I have planned the painting in black (chassis, front fenders), orange (cab, engine hood) and dark green (crane) ...

I hope that you like it ...

    Cheers

I find the B wing to be the most interesting ship from Star Wars, but Bandai and Fine Molds never kitted that one in a matching scale. This looks very nice, great recovery.

My wife found an AMT X-Wing kit at a second-hand shop a few years ago, and when she looked inside it, there was a complete B-Wing kit hiding in there too - box and all! Unfortunately, it had already been started - badly - and I wasn't able to fully rectify this, so I just put it together as a fun little side project. Here it is!

I'm quite pleased with the way this little rebel scum turned out:

I'm not sure what scale this kit is, but the size of the pilot appears to be around 1/72. I just slapped on the paint and some weathering, and called it done. I spent the most time fairing in the clear part, which is a terrible fit. Other than that, it was a lot of fun!

The X-Wing is also on the bench, and ready for painting and weathering.

The cockpit on this kit is VERY nicely detailed! Once again there are some smaller fit issues but nothing too serious. Sadly, as usual, not much of it can be seen once the fuselage is closed up.

The kit comes with a resin set for the left gun bay. Wasn't sure at first whether or not I was going to use it because "YIKES! Surgery!" but I was already moving my boundaries anyway so I pushed on.

This big lamp-lump was in the way and I was constantly afraid I would cut through it at some point, had to remove quite a lot more than you can see in this pic.

Small update: I painted the exhaust area and the radar. In addiation to that the Intruder has been prepared for a gloss coat by light sanding, to get rid of any kind of orange peel surface. Furthermore the outer wings have been finished, I painted the red parts on the control surfaces and the white wing fold mechanism.

I dryfitted the exhausts for this pic

And last but not least a shot of the whole model from the front, that thing has quite a wingspan!

Next up a gloss coat and decals.

Those early Saab cars were great.

The early rally versions driven by guys like Erik Carlsson were famous for basically being 'self-righting'. The roofs were so rounded, if you rolled it it just ended up back on the wheels!

Isn't this the car that had a 3 cylinder 2 cycle motor and you had to put a quart of oil in with the gasoline at every fill up?  Back in college in the 1950's a friend had one of these and it was a hoot! Like driving a toy car. I never knew if I was riding in a car or on a lawnmower. They sounded the same.

Another friend drove an Isetta that had only one door that was the front of the car. Every time I got in that it felt like I was in a ride in an amusement park.  it was so short that he parked it facing the curb. Of course its sides were dented (no side bumpers) but he could park just about anywhere.

Ah, the good old days. I really miss them. Now my wife drives a new Honda with all the bells and whistles. You can see backwards through a screen on the dash and it has GPS with a voice that tells you where to turn, etc.  Phooey! What's the fun in that?. When we first got married we'd hop in my roadster, put the top down and drive north into the heavily wooded sections of Connecticut. That was 50 years ago. We would get lost, of course, and then we'd have fun trying to find our way home.

Oh so you speak Swedish after being here for only five years, that´s impressive. People can stay here for decades and never bother to pick up the language because most Swedes speak English. But you can always return to Sweden you know...
I have also seen Viggen do that same manouver you told but never in the rain as you said, that must have been awesome. Have also seen Viggen in pairs many times flying by the house during the 80´s and 90´s. And last summer a pair of Gripens flew by just over my house, a rare sight these days. Also been fortunate to see the only flying example of Tunnan at an airshow some years ago.

Thanks for the compliment, I'm lucky in that I seem to be able to pick up languages fairly easily, I was actually able to speak and understand Swedish after just under a year, probably took two years before I was fluent, i.e, able to speak with no English accent, have to admit that my Swedish is probably very rusty at the moment, very rarely get a chance to use it over here. I'm a bit embarrassed about how lazy we English are when it comes to learning foreign languages pretty much every Swedish person I knew could speak three languages  !

I remember the first time I saw a flight of Viggens flying fairly low, over my home in Orminge, I called my dad pretty much immediately to tell him. I even saw some Drakens, although they might not have been Svenska Flygvapnet aircraft, too far away to see the insignia but, unfortunately, never any Gripens or Tunnans.

As for moving back, well, I could be seriously tempted.....
