Once again, I learned something new. Thanx Richard. As an aside, it is not my intention to model aircraft 273 pictured above which has the vented panel aft of the wing. Instead, I'll pick an aircraft that didn't have the vents such as 297.
-
While I can't give an example of a Mustang loaded out with 10 HVARs, my particular interest is an RCAF 402 Squadron aircraft which had six mounts.
-
Kagemusha,
Many thanx. An order on the way.

The subject I am modelling with my Tamiya P-51D carried underwing 5 inch rockets and there lies my problem - where to find the zero length rails. I purchased the Isradecal rails but, unfortunately, they are of a different pattern from those normally installed on the Mustang (see below for the required type). Anybody out there have a suggestion as to where I might find six sets of rails (don't need the rockets)?

Bill,
Here's my 1/24 Airfix grey/green/grey duo - my newly completed Typhoon and 23 year old Spit IX build.
-
Anthony,
I simply sprayed the spinner Xtracolor Sky Type S then Tamiya NATO Black and chipped some of the black off with a number 11 XActo blade.
Bill,
the leading edge of the prop has paint removed on the outer leading edges. It's just not evident in the pictures. I might add (some) 'chipping' on the wing leading edges. I just haven't decided yet.

It's the Airfix 1/24 scale bubble top Typhoon with the Yahu instrument panel, Xtracolor paints and Aviaeology decals.

Richard,
If you can, could you post pictures/drawings of the right side of late RCAF Mustangs which had the revised radio and electrical junction panel. Specifically how the radio and ARC control heads were positioned and if the oxygen regulator was updated/relocated. I still have the drawings previously provided but have since been unable to clarify the latter mentioned details.

Since I used the Aires resin wheel well set in my build I was somewhat concerned that the plastic/resin gear joint might not hold the weight so, to be on the safe side I added a piano wire support between the main gear aft of the center line tank. While it can be seen with close examination of the attached, it is virtually invisible when the model is sitting on the gear on display. As an aside, should you wonder, the pylon bombs are interchangeable on my model.

If there is anyone out there in LSP land who is willing to part with their surplus Italeri Matra Magics (for an appropriate fee of course) I'd be most grateful. It would fill that one remaining void in my build as posted above.
-
I used the Skyraider Model Design's conversion and decals and came up with the following build. Unfortunately, I don't think they (Skyraider Model Designs) are in business any more. Our loss. Now if someone would produce a set of Matra Magic missiles.....

It's the Hasegawa 1/32 F-86F-40 High-Grade kit with the TAC Scale cockpit, Eduard photo etch, Cutting Edge drop tanks, Quick Boost pitot tube and Leading Edge decals. Xtracolor enamels were used for the camouflage and Eduard pre-cut masks made painting the canopy much easier.

I'm surprised to see a sink. The post war C-47s that I flew with the RCAF had a 'honey bucket' in the tail and that was it. If there had been sinks prior to their refurbishment, I can't believe that they would have been removed. We also had a one cylinder apu back in the tail on the port side but that could well have been a post-war mod.
-
As previously mentioned, while I used the tanks, intakes, etc from the Belcher Bits conversion, I didn't use the resin fuselage. Instead I used the fuselage master that I had made which was used to develop the resin fuselage. Why? It wasn't because I didn't like the resin copy, I simply wanted to use the part I had made and it mated nicely with the forward fuselage.
-
The base was made decades ago for another model. It's simply a piece of Masonite glued to a frame and sprayed with rattle can paint.
-
My build actually used the master for the fuselage that was used to make that in the Belcher Bits conversion. Why? I made it and I just wanted to use 'my' part. The rest including the intakes, tanks, doors pylons are those provided by Belcher Bits. I do have lots of 'in progress' photos, however, there is a possibility of my build being publicized so I'm reluctant to post them at this time.
-
No, it's not a test shot from Tan Model or Kitty Hawk but rather a model based on the Hasegawa 1/32 F-5E Tiger II and the Belcher Bits conversion (plus some other odds and sods and Leading Edge decals).

I stand corrected. The avionics bays that I have are by TAC Scale. Set 32034 Tornado Detail Set, to be specific, includes the avionics bays, ejection seats, canopy rails and the behind the seat bulkheads.
-
Paragon had avionics bays for both sides of the nose as well as extended leading and trailing edge flaps for the wings. Unfortunately, Paragon is long gone and I don't know if anyone picked up on their product line after their demise.

After pilot training with the RCAF I cut my teeth flying the venerable C-47 and accumulated over 2000 hours on it in three years before moving on to the C-130. For those interested, here are three different variants of port side doors - the standard cargo door, the cargo door with the para door insert in the forward door modified to provide swing down passenger steps and a straight passenger entrance (no cargo door).
-
Further to Clunkmeister's comments, the kit should have not only skinned over windows but also skinned over locations for the Frazer-Nash and Martin upper turrets and ventral turret thereby offering the modeller a broad choice of variants to model and precluding the need for HK models to make separate moulds should they wish to offer earlier and/or later marks.
-
Looks good but I too would have preferred skinned over windows that could be punched out in order to replicate earlier Lancs. Such an initiative would have provided a broader base kit which offered the modeller a wider selection of subjects. My choice would have been a post-war Canadian Mk.10MR. I've built one in 1/48 scale and 'removing' the windows is a real pain. Hopefully HK sees fit to offer a version of the kit without windows in the (near) future.

Spitfire (late) exhausts 1:24?
in LSP Discussion

When I built my 1/24 Mk.IXc, I used/modified the exhausts from the Airfix Stuka kit. The build was the subject of a two part article in the Nov & Dec 1996 issues of Scale Models International. The following are two photos of my model and the last page of the article which lists the parts used.
