RLWP
My impression is that SAC use the kit parts as patterns to make the white metal parts. So I'd expect them to be a bit undersize Sounds like money for old rope Richard Jack
Tony T
More like money for old soldering wire. SAC really needs to change the alloy. The soldering wire metal is utterly useless for 1/32 scale. I only buy G-factor, Brassin bronze and, occasionally in the past, Aeroclub, all of which I can wholeheartedly recommend. R Palimaka
More like dry solder wire. I bought a 1/24 Mustang landing gear, which is a replacement for the Trumpeter set. I was planning to modify it to use it on my Airfix Mustang, to add some strength. The castings are very rough, and the scissor links were solid, not see-through at all. They arrived slightly bent, and when I straightened them there was a dry squeaking sound, which made me wonder if it had cracked inside. In the end I had to replace the legs with aluminum tubing, and used the remaining SAC parts to dress it up. Not impressed. Guest Peterpools
Chris Excellent review and points out our major concerns on SAC gear: soft white metal with questionable strength and soft details as well. Agree the kit gear seem the way to go Peter

Richard The creaking is a feature of white metal, something to do with crystal planes realigning. Very disconcerting Richard R Palimaka

Iain
I have several sets that I've been given in recent years - agreed on the material used - plastic stronger IMHO. Iain R Palimaka and CANicoll

quang
The most outrageous is not that they used a soft, unsuitable material. It's the fact that they obviously used the original plastic kit part as the master for their mouldings instead of creating their own. jenshb
Cees Broere
Shameless copying you mean? Although some sets do have some corrections on them or integration of parts that are separate in the original kit. Lancman
Bought and binned their undercart for the Trumpy Hurri, to sum it up it was crap and didn't even fit. Graham
Mark M
ive today binned the 1/32 typhoon set, i opened the box, it was bent, twisted and some parts were really soft, TBH the kit parts are far better CANicoll
CANicoll
Thanks for the comment gents - I think the universal issue is that the detail is missing from their parts and the metal used is suspect in the long term to actually being weaker than the kit plastic parts. So instead of a win-win, you get a lose-lose. I was very disappointed in the soft casting. It does seem like they took the kit part and re-casted it, and then added a huge mold seam. Can't say I see myself ever buying another SAC product again. Lesson learned! Chris R Palimaka
