seiran01
The first of my two Wingnut D.I's is done, and may be the most enjoyable build in recent years. To add icing on the cake it won first place in the masters category at our local club meeting tonight, a first for me Extras: Propeller: Proper Plane. Guns, wire wheels: Gaspatch. Exhaust: REXX's Fokker D.VII (late high) . Kissenberth's Edelweiss decals: Pheon's Pfalz D.IIIa volume 3 decal sheet. Paints used: Mr Color: Cowling Color for the exterior black Drooling Bulldog: Mauve, Grey-green interior with a bit of white added in, white tail, off-white underside (white + raw umber). Tamiya: Various interior, green wing camo, enamel flat aluminum for interior and engine. Alclad and Vallejo for various detail bits. Dpgsbody55
Excellent work, Mike. I love the dirty white tires and stains under the wing, together with the wire wheels and wood prop. That looks like a really great kit and one I'm going to have to add to my stash. Cheers, Michael
Gazzas
That's a great looking build! I'm really impressed with how well you did away the wing seam. Gaz

karimb
Mike superbly executed! The weathering is spot on and the painting is flawless! I also see you have taken the time to clean up the pesky seam in the leading edge of the wing! Congratulations on winning first place! Are those gaspatch wheels by the way? seiran01
Thanks guys! Yes Karim, Gaspatch wheels. They're stronger than I expected too. You need to thin and shorten the axle to fit them on - thin to just a little wider than the recess where the retaining lugs slot in for the kit wheels. scvrobeson
Excellent work Mike. How'd the decals work over the corrugations? That's the one thing that gives me pause about the D.1 Matt
seiran01
I used a hair dryer and makeup brush on the decals, and eventually some microsol as well. Worked pretty well, I still needed to jab a few small air bubbles out with a scalpel, but overall they went on well Out2gtcha and scvrobeson
