We both think their actors, the level of acting, directing, production, etc are far superior to anything oozing out of Hollywood these days.  We watched

Masters of The Air reportedly cost $250 Million to make. I don't know about the overall quality of British drama, but the Masters budget would easily make several similar UK shows. Make of that what you will.

Cheers.

I've just watched episode 8, and it's catastrophic...
No more B-17s, no more missions, no more planes...
Now it's the Stalag, a charming spy who ends up in Paris (how did she get there? Eurostar? Brittany Ferries? By dinghy via Calais? Easy Jet? Erasmus program? Emily in Paris ?), Red Tails suicide missions against Toulon...
I laughed out loud when a P51 had half its left wing cut off in mid-air by the Flak (26'13): the P51 began to turn clockwise, to the right... when, with less lift on the cut-off left wing, it should be turning anti-clockwise, to the left...
The laws of aerodynamics are the same everywhere, even over Provence...
As for the fate reserved by the Nazis for captured African-American soldiers, I don't think it can be summed up by a cigarette, a gentle interrogation by Inspector Columbo and a one-way ticket to a Stalag...
I hope I'm wrong...
Disappointing by the absence of the B-17s (which are the basis of this series) and by everything else, in fact.

Next episode: De Gaulle and Churchill with a Mosquito and who will attack the prison of Amiens for the operation Jericho and release the resistance...

Read the director for these last episodes Dee Rees’ bio and filmography and all will become clear.  And don’t forget that most of the digital artists (I have one in my family) have pink or blue hair and at least one nose ring and have never witnessed an airplane in flight if there is not one on their cell phone.

Well, I'm probably going to catch some flak here [ no pun intended] , my favorite ww2 B-17 film is still 12 O'clock  High. It was done when things were still "fresh?" from the experiences a few years before. While it's a fictional account , a lot of the personalities portrayed were based on true life people. Even Gen. Curtiss LeMay  couldn't really find fault with it after viewing . He oughta know! TBF I haven't seen any of MOTA episodes.................. yet.

If Masters tanks, it will be a very long time before we see a WWII Mini-series again. It's sad that they let progressive BS into a history mini-series. I guess I won't have to purchase any Apple products though...^_^

WWII Mini-series Peaked with Winds of War, and War and Remembrance anyway :D

There is the Fury movie and if the main thread is rather good the final battle is totally ridiculous and disappointed me to a level I cannot express...

OMG....Fury....I watched that shaking my head in disbelief at the level of stupidity in that movie. I found it utter crap.

As a remedy to this MOTA disappointment I've watched Hulu's Catch-22. I had not heard of it before (it's from 2019), and by the title I was expecting some absurdism. Honestly a great series! Characters and CGI miles and miles ahead of MOTA.

Fury was a nice looking film. The tanks and doughs looked right. I do not like how they portrayed the US Soldiers as dirtbags. I've read a lot about WWII tankers, and I've never heard of them acting like the Fury crew.  The fighting in the city, and when they take on the AT guns, are ok. The fight with the Tiger was super silly, the M1A2 76mm gun on Fury could punch right through the front of the Tiger, no problem at those ranges.

If they wanted to make it about Tiger fear, they should have found a running 75mm Sherman and based it in Italy or North Africa. Clearly, someone also gave that trash book Deathtraps to the director and writing team, and that book is a travesty.  Bogart's 1943 Sahara is a better movie in every way, as is "the tanks are coming".  I think the Tanks are coming is on youtube, the whole movie.

Just finished rereading WoW and W&R while the guys were building me a model room and would love to see a reshoot of the mini series with a really good director and cast of mostly unknown Brit actors.  I always thought the original cast - save maybe Robert Mitchum as Pug - was about as absurd as Henry Fonda playing the leading role in the original War and Peace or the ancient and unappealing Polly Burgen trying to play Rhoda.  Also wish Wouk had written a third novel, maybe entitled Remembrance, that finished the various plot lines and closed things out.

I kinda liked Tank Girl myself.

I could forgive B-17fs in natural metal and Mustangs with HVAR rockets, but the story has went to pot, trying to do too much in too little time with too little context.  Let’s do the 8th Air Force justice first then switch to Italy, that should be the second season real go deep on the whole Tuskegee and air war out of Italy in a second chapter.  Frankly after seeing B-17s shot down episode after episode I wanted to see more escort fighter revenge.  The first 6 episodes were great for my part then it started falling apart in episode 7, and agreed episode 8 did not work.  Now I guess we get a two hour finale today which I have not seen yet.  Will watch, hope it is good but they just lost their focus here in these last couple episodes.  Frankly they would have a better series if it ended when the Mustangs came swooping in to save the day in Episode 7.  That would actually be logical.
