Phantom2
Yes, I have wanted to do an Aleutian Tiger since I was in school, more then 50 years ago and I saw the old Revell kit. I could never afford it then, 1/32nd kits were very rare and much too expensive fror my weekly allowance. I´ll present the kit a bit later with some extra stuff I have. Cheers! Phantom2
Hi All! As usual I start with building all the small subassemblies I can before painting and my table are soon filled with lots of these small builds and details…. The coolers as seen from the back… The wing spar and the wheel wells glued together…. First thing I did was gluing the tail to the fuselage, a very good fit, but there were some small sinkmarks. They are hard to see, but you can feel them with your fingertips. I have started sanding the seams and filled the sinkmarks with superglue. It works perfectly well, but you must sand it down within a couple of minutes before the glue hardens. You have to repeat this procedure a couple of times to get the desired surface. These parts did not fit at all! But I got them in place with some plasticard! Yes, You are quite right, I mucked it up, DOH! These are of course the INNER walls and they are supposed to fit as this; Later, a clear panel will form the outer fuselage side and the recess is supposed to be there, for now. PHEW, lucky I could catch it now, before the glue hardened! As you can se I also did a quick “tape together” to get a feeling of the fit… No problems whatsoever! The wing spar with the wheelwells glued to the lower wing part. Perfect fit, but it took some pressure to hold the parts together. More to come soon! BradG
Good start. I have heard the 1/32 kits don't fit well. I have the 1/48 in the stash, I fear it may suffer similar issues.
BiggTim
What decals were you planning to use, Stefan? Edited May 12 by BiggTim
Phantom2
Thanks Guys! @Brad; almost all of these newer large scale kits from Hasegawa have really good fit, not WNW or Tamiya, but much, much, better then Revell. This far, I have built the P-47D, Raiden and now the P-40E, all have been really good kits with very good fit and they have been fun and easy to build. I still have the Ki-44 Shoki, Ki-84 Frank, another P-47 and a Raiden. @Tim; I will use these decals that I bought many, many moons ago; The option with the Tiger Head is "my" machine, "Aleutian Tigers" as they were called. DugyB
I’d be so tempted to paint that tiger as a stencil….. BiggTim
KUROK
I have these same decals and I want to build the Tiger one day too. I will watch to see how you fit the decal! Someone did one of these at a model show I saw here in Atlanta. He said the yellow paint you need to match the decal is Tamiya "Camel Yellow".
