Andy's Hobby Headquarters New Kit - 1/16 Tiger Ie Early Announced

Hey all you 1/16 armor fans,

There's a new Tiger Ie kit otw; the early production Tiger I from Andy's Hobby Headquarters.  No zimmerit, drum cupola, feifel air cleaners and some optional parts like a metal barrel, different mantlets, and probably some other stuff.  It's looking to be a cool kit for what he says is going to be under $150.  If I were going to build another 1/16 vehicle, I'd snag this one in a second.  I hope they used David Byrden as a source for designing this model.  It would be to their benefit if they did as there's nobody more knowledgeable on the Tiger Ie, than him.

So if the sherman was ahhq001 and the tiger is ahhq 003 i wonder what 002 is!

Was tempted to get the sherman just to build a 1/16 tank, but this is way more interesting to me

Its the separate tank commander figure from the Sherman:

Oh yes.  Will definitely have to pick up another Tiger I kit.  Hope Andy does an outstanding job on it like he has done with the other kits.  I still see the Hobby Boss Tiger I in the pile trying to correct all that is wrong.  Maybe Andy will give a Mid and Late version of the Tiger I also.

Going by this thread on Missing Lynx Jug, I don't think he's had much to do with it..

Considering they are already picking it apart based on initial CAD renderings, perhaps its for the better. Sometimes a person can be TOO invested in a subject and find fault where there is possibly none, like the comparing of a straight line drawn on the screen to a probably skewed CAD rendering. I'm all for knowledgeable input into the subject, but they could wait until the actual test shot is shown.

I hear you on that (and totally agree) but since when has that ever stopped anybody from doing it?  Even here, it's done and to be totally honest, I've found myself doing it on the rare occasion.  I read the thread on it over at Missing-Lynx and I had to say to myself "Really?";  the guy (Andy) even says in the video that they're just drawings. C'mon, get some perspective on what's being presented.

I feel like there is a lot of gate keeping in some aspects of our hobby.  I went over to Missing Lynx and took a look, I think that is what the poster above is referring to.  Things are getting very territorial in armor and with Tiger in particular.  However that same motivation has brought us information and Accuracy in our models that we would have never imagined.  Anymore there is a race to pick apart new announcements but at the same time glaring errors in subjects like the tiger which are well known and thoroughly researched should not happen. If a bolt is in the wrong place that seems an easy fix, even getting the side skirt lines wrong is a pretty easy fix.

The E8 was not that inspiring for me, like others I would be more inclined to something that saw more use.  The Tiger will get some consideration on my part, you can mark me down as interested.   I learned my lesson at least temporarily on the Rye Field kit that over complexity is not the answer.  Right now I think Andy is finding a nice balance with complexity and detail in these kits.  In this day if you want an interior for the new Tiger or sherman let the aftermarket solve that with 3d printing.  then for $300.00 you can have your full interior if you want it.  For me the best solution though would be partial interiors.  For example this new tiger, an aftermarket Turret basked and a few bits you can see through the hatches would do fine.  However full interior, no, unless I break down and buy the classic 1/25 Tamiya tiger for a sentimental build, that had full interior but was very basic.

I'm sort of surprised to hear no mention here of the Trumpeter Jagdpanther. Way too rich for my blood though, so here's hoping Andy and friends will take a stab at that.

It was mentioned, somewhere awhile ago... Having built the 1/16 Panther G, I dismissed it because it has a lot of parts in common with their Panther G kit that need a lot of rework/scratch building.  I don't relish the idea of another 2-year tank build and these 1/16 kits are big!  My Panther takes up one entire shelf in my display cabinet upstairs (which is only about 30 inches wide - I had to go and measure it).  My downstairs cabinet is wider so i could get possibly one other 1/16 on the same shelf were I going to ever build another 1/16 kit.  Hell, I'm trying to divest the three I have now.
