Kitty Hawk 1/32 HAF Mirage 2000 EGM

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Kicking my 2022 build season with Kitty Hawk's 1/32 kit of the Mirage 2000C.

The plan is build a worn down Mirage 2000 EGM of the Hellenic Air Force.

In terms of aftermarket sets, I will be using Grand Model's resin cockpit and wheels, KASL Hobby's corrected nose and LM Decals.

I started by first installing the intakes in their respective fuselage halves.

I tend to do this at this early stage as I find it much easier to deal with gaps and blending.

With that said, the overall fit was actually quite good!

Only issue I had was installing the clear window on the top side of the left intake.

Since the plastic was too thick it wouldn't allow the clear part to sit flush with the intake wall.

Thankfully, my dremel tool made quick work of thinning down the wall enough to properly install the window in place.

Next up, the resin cockpit.

Grand Models' set is a lovely piece of casting with exceptional detailing throughout including the tub, the seat and various switches.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find out it was almost a drop-fit requiring only just a bit of sanding at the points where the rear bulkhead touched the fuselage halves.

The overall cockpit was painted medium sea grey and the knobs were picked up with various colours including white, red and yellow.

A black wash followed by dry brushing with grey oils completed the look.

The lovely seat was painted with the same method.

Dials and placards came from Airscale and ANYZ Models.

Many thanks Alain! Yes, would definitely recommend this set for your build.

And they have made cockpits for several Mirage 2000 versions.

Nice start. Is there much difference with the KASL nose cone replacement?

Thank you Robin.

Actually, I was asked the same question over at a facebook group.

I kind of ordered it without thinking much.

Hopefully, it will be a worthwhile replacement.

I will share my views once I receive it.

I read somewhere ,that some French modelers  weren't convinced by this replacement part , your point of view will be useful

Great details added!

Very glad that I've stashed three copies of this kit before KH went down.

Hi all!

Spent the last couple of days detailing the undercarriage struts.

I used a combination of 0.3mm lead wire and a type of stretchable vinyl like thread to represent the myriads of pipes and hoses that cover the real things.

It's the first time I used this vinyl thread (also known as elastic string) and I'm quite happy with the result as it does capture the look of the thicker rubber pipes.

Since the vinyl thread I used is transparent I took pics before and after spraying the struts with grey primer to better see the details.
