Thank you Sean, I have to agree with you, the Aeromarine has been a fascinating experience and I can already feel that it will have a very special place in my collection... So, back to the build. The big question mark all along has been if it would be possible to get a decent result with the converted wings... After a couple of days of sanding and puttying, I still wasn't sure whether or not, this would even be possible. Not too confident at all... Something of a mess really, but staying at it for a couple of days more, I was finally getting somewhere... Bottom wings primed and the masking tape strips for the ribs. I hope I don't offend anyone using this 'pantyhose' method... The idea is to somehow add some texture to the massive white wing surfaces. This shows some of the stages, after the pantyhose was removed, i went over the wing ribs adding shadows to the ribs. Then the masking tape was removed. Everything is brought together with layers of thinned white mixed with future. This is a close up showing the 'pantyhose effect. I'm happy with the effect, and from a distance it all blends nicely together and the wings are not too white. Something i wanted to avoid at any cost. Wing 'accessories' are ready: Control surfaces, both the stabilizers and wing floats have been extended to fit the wider wing chord. The wing build and painting has been a major hurdle, for me to overcome, now I'm confident this build will be finished at some point. Troy Molitor
How did you ever come up with pantyhose effect? Lol. Regardless, it looks great. The rigging is going to be fun city on those huge wings. Huuuuge! kkarlsen

The rigging is going to be fun city on those huge wings. Huuuuge! Well initially I started experimenting with first aid Gauze bandage (the bottom of the lower wings still has it's texture from it). But it was a bit too large in scale, so I got into my wife's drawer trying to find something useful. I think there are different kinds of scale 'pantyhose' weaving (I'm no expert) so I asked her if I could 'inherit' a pair with the largest openings, thinking It would give the best chance of letting through some paint. I must say, I'm surprised, I didn't expect the effect being that well. Rigging: When I started out on this build, I was absolutely terrified of the rigging on the 'beast' - Now there is nothing left but to try and get it over with. The many, many eyelets from steel wire and pieces of brass tube. Wires for one side of the wings, some 30-32 pieces ready to be mounted. All the wires are attached to the upper wings. Fitting the scratched struts and turnbuckles on the lower wing. The struts are glued in place using epoxy. Lets see how this goes... gmctaggart
Fantastic job. I would not have thought about using pantyhose to get a cool affect like that. Gord kkarlsen

dodgem37
Creative technique. Great tip and results. Thank you. This is what tortured me way back in 1959 when I was attempting to build this: I could never align the wings. And after I did, the whole assembly kept tipping over. I guess I didn't allow the glue time enough to dry. But what did I know? I was 7.
