No, absolutely not a simple build.

Think Tamiya wonderful engineering and great fit, a lot in there but ultimately not difficult to build…and then think of *something exactly the opposite* to all those things!

It's not an easy build at all, here is my build thread from my recently completed H-1

Thank you for the comments!  Much appreciated!

After the blue portion of the spinner was painted (3:1 mix of Tamiya X-14 Sky Blue and Tamiya X-4 Blue), the prop components were given a couple of rounds of salt weathering.

Contemplating how to mask off the cockpit opening when I get to the painting stage, I came up with a brilliant idea.  I took the unused one-piece clear part and sawed it apart.

Once the rear canopy part is glued in, I have the perfect mask for the middle section.

Noticing that the Eduard mask has sets for both the 3-part and 1-part canopy options, I will take this idea a little further.

I will prepare two versions of the sliding canopy.  One for the closed position, which will also serve to mask off the cockpit, and one for the open position.  You can see the differences between the two parts in the following photo.

just read through this build thread again - what a great resource

I was pondering on getting David Parker's book but reading this there really is no point

    is it still alive?

I finished the Hobbyboss kit a few years back as I wanted a Mk.Vb on the shelf, but I wasn't mad on it I must admit, and I wasn't terribly upset when the dog knocked it off the shelf and it fell to its death!

Just hope Kotare step up and do give us one this year - and a Vc would be fantastic too!

Failing that, I'll have to be brave like you Andy and attempt a Kotare conversion..

Pleased for those who are pleased, but ultimately I think if Border succeeds in 1/35 aircraft will be damaging to 1/32 so I hope the venture fails. I would rather model 1/48 than 1/35.

I have been waiting for this damned movie for what seems like about 15 years.    It has been in development forever.

I just watched a few up to date trailers.

It looks to me more like "Midway" (the new one) or "Pearl Harbor" than "Band of Brothers" or "The Pacific."

It's worth noting HBO dumped the project, which has me worried.

The special effects look fake and computerized.

I will watch EVERY SECOND of the show mind you!   But I am smelling a major letdown already.

    I REALLY hope I'm wrong.

The color number is now at the bottom of the label. It is now hidden from view when the bottle is sitting in the paint rack’s hole locations.  Marketing people can be clueless about the topic of usability.  The current color labeling is to small.  I will have to print labels with bigger font guess.  Stick them where I can see them.

With perfect weather for keeping me indoors I’ve been making great progress today, fingers are crossed for tomorrow. I couldn’t help myself, I’ve just set the front engine and windscreen in place, really was curious to see how it’s going to look.  It’s starting to look a lot more business like now….

    Impressive detailing work.
what did you use for the ‘clips’ that hold the brake lines on the landing gear?

Thank you Dennis! It’s a really fun build I am just easily distracted, hence the seven year timeline.

Thank you Ernest! Short of oilcanning the airframe I wanted to add a distinctive touch. I agree about the undercarriage; the working springs aren’t necessary. I stay away from Tamiya decals entirely, so I used the really nice Eduard stencil set and my own masks for the markings.

    Cheers,  Tom

I started this build early in 2017, stopped, started again, stopped again, and this time the third time did the trick:
This is the wonderful Tamiya A6M2 kit which I modified according to Ryan Toew's tweak list, adding the Quinta cockpit set, my own custom masks, Eduard's stencils, and MRP paints (except for the cockpit where I used AK Real Colors). Since no smooth tread tires are available I used the Eduard offerings sanded to remove the tread. I lightly finished with a pastel wash.
