DonH reacted to LSP_K2 in Revell 1:144 767 - Delta Airlines
Due to my initial impatience with this kit, I've had to now add a second, then third layer of putty to the cabin windows. Not a big deal really, but if I had done it correctly the first time, I wouldn't now be doing it again.

DonH reacted to Wolf Buddee in Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1A
Hey Don,
It took me a whole afternoon to rebuild the quadrant if you take in to consideration glue drying time and paintwork. The hardest part was cutting the slots for the levers as they have to be cut perfectly straight and spaced correctly the first time. Applying the BarracudaCals data stencils was fun as well as I had to remove the mixture and blower control levers in order to get the decals to fit properly. It wasn't all that difficult a process though and definitely worth the extra work.
Cheers,
Wolf

Nice job! How long did it take you to make the quadrant?

DonH reacted to Nessus in Wave Oskar - Maschinen Krieger
Hi All,
Its been a while. Since the PB fiasco I've not invested much time in scouting for a hosting service but have decided to try Postimage after speaking with Kahunaminor.
This is the hull of my 1/20 Wave Oskar (floating tank) from the Ma.K universe. The engine is from Hexamodel - it is a 3D printed kit and is currently OOP. This shot is prior to flat coating.
I will post a few more images in the coming days as I finish it up. Shout out to Brian Krueger for his inspiration to build my own version of this kit
Comments welcome.

Yow, that looks great!
Cool, badass, and well lit.

DonH got a reaction from Shaka HI in Revell P-51D - Great, or merely Good, or ??
To return to the title of this thread, history tells us that any kit that starts off being great, will transition to good, then average, then meh.
I think one of the laws of thermodynamics describes it but I can't remember which and I can't be bothered to Google.

That looks great. Are you sure it's not a WNW kit?

DonH reacted to gunpowder in Echelon 1/32 Lightning........back to basics!
I just made a nice accidental discovery. I was going to make a template for the plate panel with rows of small rivets on it that fits in the top of the wheel bay. I was using gorilla tape and noticed it had near enough the exact pattern embossed on it that i was looking for , so i used the tape itself! What a time saver!

Thanks for the tip!
I hope to get back on to it in the next few days.

+1 for the IKEA stuff. This will be my next display cabinet in the coming months.

DonH got a reaction from Shaka HI in Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX Kicked Up A Notch: Last Post
Yep, it's a tight fit but I built my engine with extras scaled from drawings and EVERYTHING fitted. That is a testament to the accuracy of Tamiya and surprising considering the compromises that kit manufacturers have to make simply to get something to fit together.
Anyway, I am going to enjoy watching this engine take shape.

Removed the masking tape around the windscreen today, and I am happy to report that it turned out pretty well! I will post pictures later today.

DonH reacted to RLWP in WW2 modellers - HGW seatbelts
I get impatient, so sometimes I'll make something rather than have to wait for the post
A couple of poor shots of one of my (many) live projects
First from a sensible human viewing distance:
and a close up:
Those belts are bits of brown paper envelope. The holes were made with the point of a compass and the metal bits are paint. Not highly accurate or detailed, good enough

Here's a radical thought. Anneal and paint the belts that WNW have supplied in the box. I sometimes wonder why we spend extra money on small fiddly bits that we won't see much of when it's all over.
Here's the WNW belts in their Junkers J1. This is my attempt. In the hands of a good modeller, I am sure better results can be obtained.
Having said all that, I have belts for my Tamiya and HK Mosquitos. Much swearing in my future, I think.

DonH reacted to 1to1scale in Not another ROG P-51D Mustang? Lets call her done!
Finishing up some painting details, and put all the flying surfaces on, now it looks like a Mustang rather than a featherless chicken. Also drilled and painted true details wheels.

Beautiful work Wolff. I am amazed at the detail and quality of painting on the model fingers

That looks very good. Those red handles provide a nice splash of colour against the aluminium background.
Nice weathering!

DonH got a reaction from spacewolf in Dead domed city
This is brilliant. I love it.
One observation: it is likely the water would have boiled off into space if the dome is broken. However, I like the look of the blue around the city so am not suggesting that you change anything.

DonH got a reaction from Mikester in Disappointing Hasegawa
Why Hasegawa?
Surely the logic applies to any and all kit manufacturers?
