Thanks all. Hopefully it stays together and I don't mess up the end of the build. I don't consider weathering a strong point of mine.

Wash is done, with some possible touch up here and there (thanks big photos). Overall, I think it's coming together well. I'll do some chipping (aluminum on a sponge) and then probably seal it with a flat/semi flat coat before salt weathering commences. More to come......darn 5 days a week working slows me down!

Lighting isn't great today with the snow and overcast....so sorry if these look weird.

Thanks all. I'm working on the tape sections now (as you'll see below). Working on a wash for panel lines and rivets using pastels, drop of soap and water. I'm going to go back and clean the tape lines up more, try to hide the lines/rivets so it looks like, well, tape. We'll see. I also did spray a bit of the MRP blue grey using those SBD pics as a guide. It's pretty subtle but you can see it the most near the gas filler and wing roots going up the side of the fuselage. I dunno, I think it looks better.

Just wanted to share progress. More mud to wipe off, retouch, etc. as the day goes on.

Let me know what you think!

Panel lines and details definitely show more. Thankfully, not huge gaping trenches, just enough to help it look better. And, you can see where I had more paint lift on the first row of ammo compartments, and that was from decal film!

Like many other modellers I've been quite taken by the WingNut Wings kits - and have been slowly collecting them over the years.

Again, like I suspect with many others, they've just sat in the loft - with me putting off the day of reckoning where I actually have to rig a biplane - and with my prime interest being British and Commonwealth subjects - that's meant those 'orrible flat wires!!

Just before Christmas I invested in the various sizes of flat wires produced by Radu as part of his RB Productions range and, well, if I don't start one now, I'll keep putting it off...

So, Ladies and Gentlepersons, I give you the start of my first foray into the world of WingNuts - the "Le Rhône" boxing of their excellent Camel.

I have four Camels of various versions in the stash, so I figure I can cope with one being used as a 'test mule' to see how it comes out.

Learning/gaining confidence as I go - so please be gentle.

Currently playing with wood effects - oils over MRP Light Wood - before I dive into detail cockpit painting.

Great fun so far - we'll see how long it lasts, eh?

Well, its not the cleanest work.....but for the first time using lead wire, I suppose it's okay. I think that I'll call the engine "done" and move on so I can get the exhaust done and get the front of this bird attached!

    Comments, suggestions, all are welcome!

More progress over the weekend. The engine cowling and flaps are done and painted. In the picture, then engine module is just stuck on, not glued in place yet so a slight gap at the top.  I've also painted the white sealing tape stripes on the wings, as well as the walkways on the upper wings using Maketar's masks and Tamiya tape.

I'm hoping to get a clear coat laid down in the next few days, then move onto the HGW wet transfers (lots of those!). Hoping...….

So I've decided to try and complete a few stalled builds this year and after watching John's (Thunnas) beautiful build come together it gave me the motivation to bring it back to the bench! After unpacking it all and familiarising myself with where I got to I decided Inwasnt happy with the cockpit paint work so a re-spray was necessary and after a few evenings of work this is where I am up too.

Rightly or wrongly I decided to have a mix of interior green and dull dark green cockpit interior after reading Dana Bells excellent book. Barracuda cockpit decals added which as ever worked perfectly. Just need to add some HWG belts and some weathering and then the fuselage can be closed up. So pleased Inhave picked this build up again as it's the first time I have touched a Tamiya kit in ages and I'd forgotten just how damn good they are!!

Here's my rendition of Tamiya's recent iteration of the iconic P-38 Lightning. I dressed mine up to represent "Miss Virginia" which was involved in Operation Vengeance; the aerial assassination of Admiral Yamamoto who was the mastermind of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The kit fell together really well with minimal filler used for seam lines. However, the kit decals were a tad thick. For aftermarket, I used PE seatbelts by Eduard and metal gun barrels by Master Models. The wire antenna was done using 0.1mm copper wire, brass tubing and rigging fibre by Infini. The kit was painted with Mr Color lacquers and weathered with oils, enamels and pencils.

All in all, the kit was a pleasure to build. Looking forward to Tamiya releasing other variants!

    well good evening everyone

it's been a while, but having got Xmas, a vacation in Thailand and a shoulder injury out of the way, I finally got back to the bench...

    so where were we...

Tailwheel... for some reason I have been putting this off, but it is finally time to make myself do it. I expect it's because it's a complex bunch of assemblies - predominately this one - this is the main bracket the tailwheel fork goes into - here nicely rendered by someone in 3D (I did try that, but it would have taken less time to make it )..

..there are no drawings of the fork actually holding the wheel, but there are these for this assembly so I scaled them and coloured the main features to help me start a replica..

..I started with the two spigot parts from bits of tube and the 'Y' shaped bit in plastic card..

..this was then assembled and P40 filler added to block it out a bit..

    ..some shaping ..

..and a coat of primer - it's a long way from being right, but it's a start...

..also Tim Perry kindly prined the 3D wheel design I did..

..in other news, the model has a name now - I painted the nose art using a mask Radu Brinzan prepped for me..

.and Don Lopez's name & kill markings added under the windshield..

..and the fuselage stars n bars - this is the second attempt after the first peeled while unmasking..

..it is getting harder to work with on my increasingly messy bench...

    ..hope everyone is well

You are correct, but where I have put the gear leg is much better than where it was before.  Here it is again, showing that once the tire is attached, it will likely protrude slightly over the wing rib on the outside (but barely), rather than just inside it like the pic you have provided above.  The gear doors, which I'm not going to be using, can still be attached and will angle over those same ribs like the real deal.  The gap between door and leg is narrower than it should be, but without doors it won't be noticeable.

And here is why it is where it is.  The new part I created is pretty strong, but is much stronger when glued to the original part as reinforcement.  All of the weight of the model will be on these locations, so strength is very important.  To get the location as accurate as possible, I would need to cut this part out, which I don't want to do.

In summary, without trying to be too defensive, there's not a lot about this model that is perfect to begin with, so if the landing gear is out a few inches when compared to the real deal, I'm OK with that.

    Cheers,
    Chuck

    Some more progress. Almost done.

There is a mysterious story associated with today's session. I was about to paint the landing gear covers, those covering the front of the gondolas in the wings.
I arranged everything on the desk, glued these covers to sticks with blutac, mixed the paint, turned on the compressor, connected the airbrush, poured the MRP OD 41, as a test sprayed it once or twice onto the paper towel, I reached for the sticks and ... there was only one cover. The other disappeared. Peeled off the stick. The air took it somewhere . Stay calm I thought. It must be here. But ... I have not found it. On the desk, behind the desk, under the desk. No trace of it. It is a kind of paranoia, I thought to myself. This would probably be the fourth such situation this year. Two parts from Curtiss P-40. Superstructure of a Chinese cruiser (!).  Now this.

Finally I made them on the basis of the saved one of the Felix nuts tin cover. Managed to shape it with the tip of the Excel knife holder, cut to shape. I can live with it. These are even more in scale. Happy end :D.

Added the wheels, and most of the the gear covers, the lights.
Time to think about the weathering, probably will use some light earth pigments, also to emphasize the rivets just as they look at the photo in my earlier post, maybe some oils for the belly.

Here is my finished F35, hope you like it.

I build 1/32 jets as a side step wjhen I'm bored with 1/16 panzers so jet building is something I am stil learning!
So I noticed that I didn't paint enough at the rear of the cockpit and a few other things.
I used a Dutch Decal set, and a PJ Productions F16 pilot.

    With regards,
    Rob
