Ayovan Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 (edited) Joining in on my 1st LSP group build. I figured what the heck... I have the 1970 Revell Corsair, and ordered up some Eduard resin wheels and an IP. Also ordered up some decals as the ones in the kit don't look to be in very good shape. Other than that it will be pretty much oob. Edited April 6, 2021 by Ayovan BradG, phasephantomphixer, Lothar and 3 others 6
Ayovan Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 (edited) Getting things out of the box to wash, and clean up, this thing really doesn't look too bad for what, a 50 year old kit.... Edited April 6, 2021 by Ayovan coogrfan, Wackyracer, mgbooyv8 and 7 others 10
BradG Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 It's really not a bad kit, goes together with minimal difficulties.
Ayovan Posted March 21, 2021 Author Posted March 21, 2021 (edited) Started with the engine. In the Kiwi Corsair thread Peter suggests he had a lot of flashing because the molds were worn out. Nope......1970's technology.Lots of flashing and mold lines to clean. Edited March 21, 2021 by Ayovan phasephantomphixer, Alain Gadbois, CShanne and 4 others 7

mgbooyv8 Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Hi Ayovan, Great that you decided to build your old Corsair in this group build. Interesting to read that your engine needed a lot of clean-up as well. Like you said, it clearly was always like that. The instrument panel looks to be crisper than my example, which is hardly surprising. Does this mean the Eduard panel will not be used anymore or do you pop it in later? Cheers, Peter phasephantomphixer 1

Cheers, Peter I'm still waiting for delivery of the Eduard IP. I want to continue on the build (I'm bored), but I think there will be enough room to slip the Eduard IP in after the fuselage is joined together. If not, Meh.... The OEM IP didn't turn out that bad dry brushing it. I did have some WW2 instrument decals around here somewhere I could use to dress it up a bit. The Eduard IP was only $8, and I can always save it for a future build. I might follow your lead by using the the pilot to hide the lack of detail in the cockpit. It is pretty sparse in there, lol. Ayovan Posted March 21, 2021 Author Posted March 21, 2021 (edited) So I went ahead , primed and painted the interior areas zinc chromate. This is such a simplistic kit I think I will make the wings fold (an option for the kit), just because....It needs something. Edit: No wing fold. I tried it...no way. It works but it is so sloppy that the wings sag really bad in the extended position. Nothing a little glue wont fix. Ayovan Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) Joined the fuselage halfs, and glued the wings up solid. (no wing fold for this bird). Mattel.........I mean Revell didn't really do much in the way of engineering the wing fold. It was really sloppy with a single pivot point that held the outer wing panel with the smallest of hinge point. Even If I used the wing fold it was a disaster waiting to happen. phasephantomphixer Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 No fold will be fine, besides you will always have the bent wing shape now. Built this one back in 1982 just as you, before Eduard and all for my father when I learned it was his favorite bird. Keep at it and waiting to see it finished! mgbooyv8 and Ayovan 1 1
Ayovan Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 Got the wings glued up along with the elevators. There are a couple of places at fuselage/wing joint that need some filling and sanding but not too much, and the wing root fit to the fuselage is perfect. No filling or sanding needed on either side. rafju, LSP_Kevin, Landrotten Highlander and 3 others 6
Ayovan Posted March 25, 2021 Author Posted March 25, 2021 (edited) Looks like my build might have to go on hold for a little while. I had to check back into the hospital due to complications from covid 19. 4th time since January. Edited March 26, 2021 by Ayovan coogrfan, MikeMaben, chrish and 2 others 5
MikeMaben Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Wow, take care Andy. Hope to see you back soon. Ayovan 1
dennismcc Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I think that the kit can stand the wait but your health cannot, take care. Cheers Dennis Ayovan 1
Ayovan Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 (edited) Thanks guys, Hopefully I won't be in here too long. I hate hospitals. To many sick people here, plus they like stickin ya with needles at all hours of the day. Gotta keep a sense of humor about it. Edited March 26, 2021 by Ayovan MikeMaben 1
