Anders_Isaksson Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Ok, not so much an update but a "heads up". This time it's about a detail that Tamiya HAS provided but makes no mention of in their instructions! ... Hopefully this information will be found useful for those that will or already have built this amazing kit. Many thanks for the heads up, Wolf! I suppose this detail would apply to the Mk VIII as well? Will have to check my kit regarding those hooks and if they're mentioned in the instructions.
DougN Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) Are the hooks timeframe (i.e. Aug 1944 onwards), or production (i.e. Mk IX's onwards) based? I'm guessing it is not that easy of course... And I guess there are plugs for the forward mounting holes if one does not want the tank attached? Brilliant work as usual Wolf - perhaps you should fab up another set of heat ducts and send them to Roy Sutherland so he can cast them up Doug Edited October 22, 2011 by DougN
Barry Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Wolf, your detail and paint skills are inspirational!  Barry

Brilliant work as usual Wolf - perhaps you should fab up another set of heat ducts and send them to Roy Sutherland so he can cast them up Doug Hi Doug, I have no specific information on the time frame or which mark of Spitfire the slipper tank and associated hardware was installed. I do know that George Beurling's aircraft, a Mk IXc, VZ O B carried the slipper tank while he was on 412 Squadron for a time. It's his aircraft that I'm modelling. Sorry I don't have any real info to help you. Should Edgar Brooks or Roy Sutherland weigh in on this, the might be able to answer your question. Cheers, Wolf

I only know that the specific aircraft I'm modelling had these details. It's nice that Tamiya has provided the parts, I just wish they had given some instruction as to their use considering that the slipper tank is used on the kit supplied options. Cheers, Wolf
Wolf Buddee Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Brilliant work on this so far Wolf...love the "ducks" ..used a couple of elbow pieces for mine ,made by KD Industries, just need a couple rivets added...ha ha. Ok..lets see some paint on this for God's sake. no pressure Thanks Bill! The painting has begun but it'll be slow going over the next few days as there's a few work and family commitments I've got to attend to. Cheers, Wolf

Wolf Buddee Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Bottoms up! I finally managed to get some paintwork and weathering on the bottom of the Spitfire. There's a bit more to do but I want to get the roundels painted and weathered first and then it'll be time to mask of the underside and start on the top. No pre-shading on this one, just post shading and a thin wash of a black/brown acrylic wash thinned with distilled water and a dollop of dish washing soap. Comments and citique welcome! Cheers, Wolf Edited October 25, 2011 by Wolf Buddee geedubelyer and Model_Monkey 2
Anders_Isaksson Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 ... No pre-shading on this one, just post shading and a thin wash of a black/brown acrylic wash... Good call, Wolf! That's a great start, I really like the subtle variations to the surface.
Ralph Riese Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Hello Wolf: what a journey so far. Great to see the next stage begin!! Love the start. The Kraken wakes... Cheers, Ralph.
brewer Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Great to see some color on this build, looks amazing! Can't wait for more!
Wolf Buddee Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Good call, Wolf! That's a great start, I really like the subtle variations to the surface. Thanks Anders. I'm trying hard to make this look like a naturally weathered and worked on airframe without making it look like patchwork if you know what I mean. Cheers, Wolf
Wolf Buddee Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Hello Wolf: what a journey so far. Great to see the next stage begin!! Love the start. The Kraken wakes... Cheers, Ralph. Ralph, you have no idea how much I've studied the paint work that you did on your own build of the Spitfire. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, that's what I'm shootin' for. Your ability with an airbrush and your eye for detail and use of colour is what has inspired me on this build. I hope I can get close to achieving the results I'm looking for. Thanks for looking in! Cheers, Wolf
Wolf Buddee Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Great to see some color on this build, looks amazing! Can't wait for more! Thanks Brewer! Yeah, it is nice to see some colour finally being laid down. This is an amazing kit and I hope to do it justice. Cheers, Wolf
Martinnfb Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Wolf, this if one of the most spectacular build my eyes has ever seen. The underside is incredibly realistic.
