Nice work Wolf...just got my bench up and running this afternoon so the 190A-3 is back in motion...I should have just built it as an A-5 rather than backdate the bloody thing...LOL

Thanks Dave and it's good to hear you're back at the 190! I hope you got the heat turned up though. It's gettin' a bit nippy on our neck of the woods. Today it's been fairly quite on the bench. Two football games to watch, well one now. It'll be Winnipeg coming west but who they'll play will be determined shortly. After that, it's work bench time!

Big thanks again to you for your generous assistance with this little restoration project. I definitely couldn't have done it without your help.

Cheers,

Wolf

Wolf I've been using the Montex masks for a long time and found the best way to apply them.DON'T put the entire mask on your project.Fire me off an email and I'll send you some pics of how I did mine...cheers

Wolf, beautiful job on that Spitty, just incredible!

If you need some paint masking tutorials in the future, I have a few up on my website:

new year new update Wolf?

Hi Shawn, thanks for the inquiry. I haven't managed any time on the bench since before Christmas and it seems the longer I'm away from the bench the harder it's getting to get back at 'er. All I have left to finish is the engine and I hope to post some more WIP stuff soon.

Thanks again,

Cheers,

Wolf

Wolf,

I don't want to repeat myself or anybody else, but this is a museum quality build, even better than the real one. Needless to say ,, this was not a compliment ,just stating the obvious. ;)

Thanks for sharing. Martin

The beginning of the end! After a couple of months away from the bench it was high time to get back at 'er and finish off the Merlin for the big Spit! The first order of business was to scratch-build the missing coolant connector pipes that go from the cylinder heads to the coolant header tank at the front of the engine. Using drawings supplied by Edgar Brooks (thank-you Edgar) I cobbled together the connectors from styrene card stock, evergreen rod, and various sized discs punched out with my trusty Waldron Model Products punch and die set. I can't begin to tell you how invaluable that tool has become! I tried to match the level of detail on these parts to what Tamiya supplies in the kit but it's a little hard to see from the pics because they're all white and really small. The rubber hose is represented with a thin strip of Tamiya masking tape and the clamps come from a Model Car Garage set of vintage hose clamps. The starboard side will be glued in to place shortly and then I'm on to the next bit. The white discs on top of the intake manifolds are the beginnings of the cylinder fuel priming lines.
