AngryJazz_Models Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Hi all of you! After lurking for quite a while it's time for me to share my build. I was inspired by a build log i saw on here and luck would have it that the Ki-45 came on sale at my local hobby store (77€) not long after. I started the kit not long after and really enjoyed it! ...until i got to the exterior.. So many things to fill, sand and scribe. It killed my motivation for the build. It sat for a year before I took it down and tired to make some more progress. Fixing much of the gaps and seams - but ultimately it ended back on the shelf. So this build log is something to help me stay on target and finally finish the kit(or bin it). The interior was really great and fit together very well. Although I used the paint called out in the manual its more green than the correct brown / grey. Also i forgot to paint the interior spine part, so a lesson learned with kits like these. Luckily it's not too noticeable. So here is the progress over about 1,5 years and the current state of the kit. Huge kit! Current state of the kit - have since attached the tail and working on the landing gear area. MikeMaben, Wouter, Ralph-D and 25 others 28
LSP_Kevin Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Welcome aboard, Ben! Looks like nice work on the Nick so far. Kev Martinnfb 1
Archimedes Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Fantastic to see - and I also like the Sopwith Dolphin next to it! Don't give up Ben! I joined for exactly the same reason as you: to get a build completed and used the build log to hold me to it and I am glad I did. You have made great progress and I'm certain you can get this one over the line. Bravo so far! Kind regards, Paul Martinnfb 1
Kagemusha Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Nice work so far, hoping you don't bin it, your sense of achievement when finished will be all the greater, there are a few builds on here which should prove inspirational, I'll post links tomorrow when on my laptop.
scvrobeson Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Looks like this project is coming together quickly and cleanly. Looking forward to what you do next Matt
dennismcc Posted November 30 Posted November 30 (edited) Looking good, no wait a minute it's looking great, I have one of those in the stash so will follow with interest. Cheers Dennis Edited November 30 by dennismcc
Javlin1 Posted November 30 Posted November 30 Ben the interior looks great may I ask any AM in there?I have this kit also just wondering does one need AM?The color kind of reminds me of the Ki-61 interior?
AngryJazz_Models Posted November 30 Author Posted November 30 Thank you all for the warm welcome 😊 The WNW Dolphin was actually finished in February this year, so it would be nice to get the Ki-45 done too! Engines are also built, so after the wheel bays it should hopefully be close to primer... "checks manual - oh 10 more pages before i'm done 😂 "
AngryJazz_Models Posted November 30 Author Posted November 30 @Javlin1 Thanks! The interior is built out of the box. The instrument panel is made from the clear piece with the decals applied to the backside. It looks quite alright so maybe the only upgrade is fabric seat belts if you don't want to use the plastic ones. Javlin1 1
Dpgsbody55 Posted December 1 Posted December 1 Nice work so far on what looks like a good kit. I do like Z-M kits too. Cheers, Michael
AngryJazz_Models Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Finally the engines can be test fittet to the fuselage! Major milestone since it's the first thing you build when starting the kit. Still need to be dusted off a bit better, but it's a nice feeling 😄 A lot of work has been made to get the wheel bays mounted. As anything from ZM - they are very detailed. You can see the engine details from the inside as well. As you can see from all the filler - the underside is where I had the most issues with gaps etc. However most is done and I took some time to fill and scribe a few other areas. I still need to fix a few more on leading edges and a panel or two. Now to decide if I mount the engines and mask around or wait until after painting. Waiting may result in more fit issues and i've already had many. It would be much easier to fill and sand at this stage. I should mention that i'll be cutting a few corners here and there. I already accepted this project will have to be completed to a lower standard than usual. For me it's more important not to lose my motivation trying to fix everything. I just want a decent model to display on the shelf 😊 LSP_Kevin, Rocat, Furie and 12 others 15
Steve Eagle Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Having done one of these- DO NOT GIVE UP. It really is worth all the effort. You are doing very well with this.
LSP_Kevin Posted December 5 Posted December 5 So glad you're posting this build here, Ben. Trying to follow builds like this on Facebook is mostly impossible, and frustrating as heck! Kev
