I decided not to cut out the ailerons so I went on with the wings. I cut away the brackets at the rigging because these were more then 0.5mm thick which is way overscaled. I will replace these with 0.25mm styreen. Also the holes were filled en I will make smaller holes because Trumpeter made a mistake with the rigging. In the picture below you will see that Trumpeter wants you to place PE1, PE2 and PE3. In all my references I can't find these and Thomas Lund also warned me about this.

I decided to glue the rightwings and leftwings but I'll glue these to the fuselage when everything is sprayed in color

The handle for folding the wings is replaced with PE

When you glue everything together (without the rigging that is) it looks like this

A litlle putty is still needed.
Upper center wing with some PE

The fuselage after priming. The oilcooler is till dryfit. This wil also be glued after spraying.

At last a dryfit because i want to place the rigging with everything in place. Just to prefent some misallignment.

I also had a little setback. I wanted to make the torpedo but when I wanted to take the sprue out of the box I noticed there wasn't any sprue P. I looked very carefully, I searched my hole room but I couldn't find it. Bummer. I went to the LHS and told the problem. They will contact the importer to see if they can get a replacement sprue. I also contacted the customerservice of Trumpeter. I don't have high hopes but you never know. So, if you own this kit please check if sprue P is present before you are going to build it.
I will check the net for measurements and will try to make a torpedo from scratch because i really want a torpedo under the plane.

Before I could prime the fuselage i had to place some more parts. One of this parts was the lower center wing. And man o man, did I mess this up
When I glued this part I saw something strange. I looked at the model, I looked at the manual , I went to the wall en hit my head against it.

In the manual you will see at the end of the toothpick some sort of adjusting.

    Now look at my piece

    eal

Something did not go wel here. While cleaning this piece i must have tought this were some kind of sprue or something so i cut it off..........

A well, after realising what I had done I had a good laugh en fixed it with some styreen rod and a piece of a earbud.

This will do for me. After this I sprayed the fuselage in the primer and went on with the wings. I had the idea of cutting out the ailerons but there seems to be a different between the top side and the bottom side.

The piece of tape is of the same lenght. When the aileron moves upwards, the pivotting points are at the black stripes. (Is it called pivotting points or is it called hingeline?)
But where are the pivotting points when the aileron moves downwards??????????

I really have no idea and I can't find it in the references so I think I will leave it as it is

    Thanks for watching.

I’m making an assumption that items other than LSPs are acceptable here. My wife and I went on holiday earlier this month and she bought me this handsome Tag Heuer Formula 1 timepiece:

Last June we celebrated 20 very happily married years together. She sure is a keeper (the watch is too  ).
I used to wear a watch all the time, but never had one as nice as this! Anyone else like fine timepieces?

When I was looking at my references I saw that the exhaust was way too light. It had to be much darker.

Below my reference warpaint series nr 12. I am going to do the 4H

So I took some matt black en made the exhaust darker.

I am still seeing the copper, blue en orange so I am very happy with this.

Yesterday I sprayed paint on the wings and the fuselage. It seems like a strange color but I think it is the correct one. This is sky (duck egg green)

I let this dry at least till tomorrow before I wil mask it and spray another color. Better save than sorry.

Last 2 weeks i spent time building but forgot to take pictures. I rigged the wings, made the landing gear and the the tail wheel.
The landing gear got some PE.

The wheels are from Mastercasters and i think they look real nice.

The tail wheel however is not so nice. The axel looks crooked.

This was not acceptable so i drilled a hole through the wheel and the bracket.

Then I took some 0.6mm brass tube and made an axel

When assembled itlooks much better. ( For such a small part)

Then I sprayed everything in mr surfacer grey. I'm looking forward to spray some color.

    Some small parts

    Some bigger parts

    And a dryfit

Painting has started. First I sprayed the oilcooler. I use Hobby color as paint and I really like it. I can spray indoors, even when it's cold because you don't really smell the paint.
For the cooler I used steel with a drop or 2 copper. when you turn it in the light it gets different shades,

Then I went for the exhaust ring. I wanted to try to paint some heat stains. The exhaust is made of copper so that is the first layer.

Then I toke some clear blue,

    Followed by clear orange.

Finally i did some layers of grey smoke to darken the copper and try to blend the colors a bit. All it needs now is a coat of matt clear to get rid of the shine.

For the first try i am happy with it. If you see something to do better the next time, please tell me. Every comment is usefull and appreciated

    Hello from Viet Nam !
Finally... after 2 years on and off I've managed to finish this. The kit is Academy MH-60S, this is a rebox of UH-60 by Academy hreleased years ago. There are new sprues and decal for the MH-60s. The new sprure carry nice details but the old sprures  suffered from old mold. Due to the large dimension of the rotor, I decided to fold the blade and the tails ( I always have a thing for fold wings anyway).
All folding details are scratchbuild from plastic and styren rod with many good preferences found on the internet. The most challenge is the 2 brace hold 4 rotor blades. Styrene rod aren’t strong enough to hold the weight of the blades. I ended up soldering paper clips to create the braces.
I enhanced the model with Big Ed set from Eduard and Live resin mini gun. Both set are highly recommended for this model. On a separate note, the fit of the kit is not Tamiya or Hasegawa quality, hence lots of sanding, re-scribing lost details, riveting...
Mr. Hobby paint was used, all photo taken under sunlight with black and white background.
Hope you enjoy my article .

    …..and done.
Well not technically. I do have to finish the antennas and doo-dads at the top rear of the vertical stabs. One of these days.

There will be no up close glamor shots.  It’s definitely a six-footer.  I initially hoped to make this a much more accurate Su-33, but after year three passed, accuracy left town with good workmanship. I thought about listing all the inaccuracies, errors of omission, and areas of substandard workmanship, but what’s the fun in that? There is only one thing that really bugs me about it- the nose gear is at a bit of a weird angle.

I did learn a few things. I’ve never attempted a project even approaching this complexity before. Some parts were easier than I thought they would be, others were much harder. I also learned that I like finishing models more than I like building models. But most importantly, I have a 1/32 Su-33.

    hi folks

Hi guys - I have to confess this is already on the heat shrink tubing I use - I think it's for electrical stuff so it has codes & temps or something on it

I quite like it so will leave as is - plus I don't know how to get it off

Hi Kurok - if you go back a few pages you can see I made a PE strip with the actual scale width and a plinth & rivet spacing all according to the drawings and then had these made. from there I put half the strip in a hold&fold tool so I could add the top of the T piece from plastic card

then once painted I just ran sandpaper accross the rivets to bring them out

so, I am really glad this week is over - just look at all this piping...

I got some 0/6 and 0.8 solder from Amazon which was all I could think would be silver, but flexible enough to be able to bend..

the inherent problem in this is that is also easy to bend by accident, so I would roll it flat using a sheet of balsa and a book (so as not to scar it), slide a brass tube along it to where I wanted to bend it and then bend as needed.

This works but for stringing it through holes, through or behind fittings it was an extremely tiring, demanding and frustrating job.. one I could really only do for 30 mins (or a pipe) at a time..

I made loads of fittings and parts the pipes connect to and while I don't have in progress pics, now I have done the bulk of it, and added the door retraction jacks, I took a bunch of photos of where it is at...

    ..and in detail..

..so thats it - my eyes hurt

onto the uplocks & all the big pipes in the big hole at the front next...

Thanks Ferry and Marcel! I get your hesitation about starting to build without all the bits you require Marcel, after all - one can't wage war without secure supply lines! Go Grumman.

Every time I start building a model, I should remind myself that what I have bought is not in fact whatever it says on the box, but this instead:

Here is a prime example - exhibit A. I could have sworn the little strengthener plate was flat before I primed the model (your honour). How on earth does that happen? Chemistry of course! Luckily I was able to sand it flat without removing all 0.13mm of styrene.

    Time to paint.

I really wanted to try the mig AMMO acrylics, but given the chemistry lesson I'd just been handed, thought better of it. I will first practice and learn how to use pure acrylic out of the public eye.  The actual colours in the AMMO range are notable for their huge range, and they look pretty accurate to me. I used them to base my mixing of Tamiya acrylics on. First up the "dielectric" grey bits were painted.

Two coats of AMMO "heavy chipping fluid" later, and I then did what the Luftwaffe did - spray "Light Compass Grey" over the dielectric paint.

Then with a bit of water and a paintbrush I did what 600 or so knots of Luft did to the Luftwaffe's paint...

With that bit of fun out of the way, the bottom got a coat of the "Light Compass Grey". It is quite difficult to make out which colour goes where on the AirDoc instructions, so I have adapted mine based on various photographs as well as this colour scheme gleaned from wings palette. It appears that the colour scheme changed a bit over the years, and I am doing a very early version of Norm 90J.

The upper surfaces first get "Compass Grey". notice the subtle difference in the shades of compass greys on the underside of the horizontal stabs.

Finally the "Medium Grey" completed the upper surfaces. At this point I noticed that the chemistry worm was still turning, and have had to sand down the fairings on the chaff/flare dispensers. The very thin styrene seems to react poorly to either the styrene cement, the Aclad primer, or a combination of the two. Whatever

I set the big piece aside to sulk and dry a bit, and tackled the last of the building tasks - the weapons pylons. I really enjoy the MiG-29's missile pylons. They look like they were designed by sci-fi movie prop designers, and named by the script writers from Star Wars. How's this, the R-73E missile goes on a P-72-1D launcher. Cool! Here they are straight from the kit. The smallest one is a P-62-1DB1, the big one is the P-72-1D and the  long thin one is an APU 470. The APU is my favourite.

Although I think the Trumpeter effort on the pylons is excellent, I wanted to add a little detail since I want them missile-less on the model, and they were designed to be missile-full. The first thing was to add rails, then hollow out the nose cones, and add a securing device of sorts. The APU 470 has what looks like vents below the rails, and weld seams all over the launcher body. after hours of fiddling this is what they look like. This kind of detail work will lead to madness or blindness, and I would rather suggest that you order Zactomodels' beautiful pylons and weapons.
