firefly7 reacted to thierry laurent in Anyone used "EMP3D" parts? Looking at Corsair Hellcat wheels
I do not have this set but ordered various accessories from them as their catalogue is huge. Delivery was not a very quick one but the parts printing was flawless and the price quite attractive. Recommended.

Camotint and Sky Type S are widely recognised as one and the same. The 'Type S' simply means the paint has a smooth finish, as opposed to the matt finish of previous paints.

Hi Firefly!
It’s USD 70.00 for the 1/32 model plus tax and shipping.

firefly7 reacted to Gary Needham in Takom Wings 1/32 Ho 229A & B
So in essence Paul and to summarize by your informed understanding of the subject and enjoyable explanation, neither kit represents accurately what is, in effect, a complete 'what if' project and model company best guess assessment. In many ways it is as futile a serious debate or assessment for model building purposes as arguing 'what if' German Army Panzer 1946 camo colours or AFV projects. As you say, only the single seat version actually exists in any meaningful format to invite critical assessment against a model kit.
Both the Takom and ZM kits will satisfy most modelers who simply want a superbly detailed nice fitting kit and a subject platform that will allow them to have a free camo palette just like 'fantasy' painters have with fantasy model figures i.e. you can't be wrong within (reasonable) camo parameters.
Thanks for the explanation of a little known subject and I will happily build my (cheap as chips!) Takom 2 seat 'night fighter' kit in the full knowledge that it has as much accuracy and reality as a Star Wars 'AT-AT' or 'X-Wing' model kit.

Sounds good to me. You've "eyeballed it" pretty accurately. Sometimes "feeling the force" is better than trying to measure it with callipers.

Well Gents, I've had an offer from a 3DPrinter to take my design and retail them. This won't happen until I'm happy with both the intakes & exhausts so they can go together as a package to fill all the voids in the stock kit.
What I will say is that these are very much an eye-balled item. I haven't got any drawings to work off, I'm just using reference photos to get something that looks 'right'.

firefly7 reacted to geedubelyer in Are 'vapor' kits a developing trend...?
Hi Thierry.
You pose an excellent question that probably has many answers.
Erwin has already mentioned cost.
The 3D printed SR-71 family is going to be rather large when assembled. That obviously takes quite alot of printing and equally, quite alot of material. Anyone wanting one is likely to have to stump up quite alot of cash. How large is the market segment for such a model? A handful of well off modellers globally?
Selling the files might actually be a better business model in that instance?
The Mirage F-1 may have fallen foul of Dassault's copywrite policies? Certainly one 3D manufacturer with big plans was stymied by that before they even got the ball rolling.
There may also be technical issues to overcome.
One designer at least is struggling with the transparent parts and getting consistent results with vacu-forming the glazing for their multi-scale, multi-media helicopter offering.
For others it may be overcoming inherent resolution results and the ever present spectre of layer lines. Certainly at least one company has been vilified for the layer lines on some of their 3D printed releases.
So those may offer some explanations as to why it's less easy to produce than design and why we see so few 3D models make it to market.
Thankfully it is possible and Airscale Pro is paving the way, albeit beyond the budget of some.
However, we know Peter is working on ways to make his designs more accessible to more modellers and I'm confident that he'll succeed.
Hopefully his success will spur on others to follow in his footsteps.
Cheers,
Guy

And you won't get a Defiant for 200€. With the European taxes you will need more than the double...

firefly7 reacted to Erwin in Are 'vapor' kits a developing trend...?
The problem with 3D models is that they are (very)expensive.
For example the Defiant.
I wanted a Defiant for a long time.
But ,it's just a hobby.
I won't spend 200 Euro's on a kit.
And working with resin is also not for most modelers used to injection moldings.

Is it me or for three-four years we got multiple announcements of small production (mainly 3d-printed) 1/32 models that were not yet/ never released is spite of the fact final or close to final prototypes were shown?
The ones I'm remembering:
SR-71, Alphajet,, Mirage F-1, SeaKing, SHAR, Westland Wasp, Fairey Firefly...
I know that releasing a model is easier to say than to do and there are unattended events that may sidetrack projects but why are so many producers announcing releases that never become products...?
It looks cold war aircraft modellers are doomed...😠

firefly7 reacted to ChrisFawcett18 in Brian Fawcett
Hi,
I thought this was the best place to tell you. Unfortunately my dad, Brian Fawcett, passed away over the weekend.
He spent a lot of time on here, talking with you all and sharing ideas. Some of you may even have bought his resin kits previously.
Please know, modelling really was his world, along with radio controlled air craft and moaning about the state of politics in the world!
I’ll try and make my way through his contacts list, but if you know of anyone who dealt with him regularly, please do pass this message on.
This post has also gone onto one of his existing threads, but thought it wise to post something new.
Thank you for being such a great community for him over the years, we will miss him dearly every day.
Cheers, C

firefly7 reacted to LSP_K2 in Trumpeter 1:144 SSN-21 Seawolf
While I was intending to wrap up a Meng Me 163B for the show here in September, I realize I just don't have the time. I do however have the time to finish this, the 1:144 Trumpeter Seawolf, which has already had most of the major work done. Since there is little detail involved, this will mostly be a painting exercise, which I love anyway.

I've been messing around with some 3DP recently for the HKM Meteor. The idea is to actually put a jet pipe in the back end of the nacelle also removing the necking down that the kit part has (12mm opening, 11mm at the end) and I'll probably graft a turbine and a support onto the back to locate it all. Prints need a bit of refinement, my wall thickness is a bit low allowing for a bit of deformation and misalignment but it's a couple of mouse clicks to change the settings. If anyone knows the distance from the end of the exhaust to the EGT sensors, that would be useful. The tubes serve a double purpose, the joint looks like a weld in the real thing and the and it keeps the distance low to enable easy painting.
If anyone has suggestions for improvements, shout up.
