Not sure where/how to do this.  We are downsizing, which means we have lots of stuff that needs a new home.  While rummaging here and there today, I discovered that I have squirreled away several very nice - meaning well done and in great shape - aviation fine art prints.  Some are signed by the artist, others are signed to me by the artist and the rest are just decent prints.  Mostly Keith Ferris, a couple RG Smiths, some of my own, and a handful of dogs and cats.  Mostly modern jets, I think.  None of my kids or grandkids want any of it and if none of you all want them, they will soon grace the local landfill.  They are free to whomever might want them and, depending on where you live,  I might even pick up the shipping tab.  PM me and we will work out some photos for your review.  Oh!  And I also have the full size fuselage template set from the plans for a Rutan Long EZ if anyone is interested.

Well considering HK are rumoured to be following my lead with their 1/32 range (by lead I mean I spend 2+ years building a vac and then an injection one comes along!) you can count on a Stirling being next

The Halifax could be really cool - I have a soft spot for the Wellington so I hope they will add that to their range of twin-engined bombers

    All-

I just got this little beauty in my hot little hands today, all the way from Russia via an intermediary from Romania I believe. I was able to order directly from KEP Models, and it took about three weeks to get here. Let's see what's in the box.

Oodles and oodles of darker grey printed resin, and it is absolutely beautifully cast. The structures that support the larger pieces are quite impressive:

The fuselage is molded into four main pieces; two tail halves with the horizontals already attached, and two almost complete fuselage halves.

The fuselage and tail interiors have locating pins, which is a nice touch. They are quite large, and the  fit is very tight. What's tricky is the break between the tail and the fuselage coes along side some beautifully cast stretched fabric, so care will be needed to maintain the texture and hide the seams.

The interior is fairly basic, but the structure provided on the walls in the cockpit is very nice. Some bulkhead pieces are included as well, which are quite nice. But here's a real gem for the interior, the instrument panel with attached throttle quadrant, complete with some very delicate and detailed levers.

Wings are each one-piece affairs, and they too have some nice molding on them with some subtle oil-canning:

Engine nacelles are also molded as one piece:

Speaking of the engine nacelles, the engines are absolutely exquisite. They feature some very fine details, especially on the crank case and piston heads:

The most important piece not to get damaged was the canopy, and I was fortunate there:

Two vacform canopies are included. Here we also see landing lights, and a sheet of protected acetate to make the side windows, complete with a sticker designed so you can cut out the windows from the sheet.

The other stabilizer is loose in the box, along with some other small bits. Speaking of bits...

Check out this fancy tail wheel, all one-piece:

Other small bits included the landing gear pieces, optional skis, landing gear doors (not pictured, were lose in the box), and a really nicely molded machine gun for the top of the fuselage.

Props, flaps, and bombs round out the bits:

The bombs are beautifully cast as single pieces with separate bomb shackles.

Decals are included for one option, with a color profile to aid in painting it properly.

Instructions are two sheets, with clear pictures of the assembly sequence so that you don't have to worry about reading the Cyrillic.

In it's trip from Russia, I only had one broken piece, which is a big surprise considering how brittle these 3D printed resin kits are:

Fortunately for me, this means I get to navigate the fabric texture and a panel line three times, rather than two like the rest of you.

That's what comes in the box, for roughly $106US shipped. I can highly recommend this kit, and anything else that KEP produces! This is a real gem.

Near to my heart is this kit from Revell. I built it as a kid around 1975 and it held the title of my only completed LSP until the Fury in 2017 (which my last one). So, for fun, I thought I would pull this up from the bottom of the stash, let it pass many other projects ahead of it in line,  and take a shot at it. A few videos on the Blue Angels of that Phantom era got my juices flowing. Did you know there have been 26 fatalities flying for the team over the years? With only 260 pilots ever flying for them, that's 1 in 10! These are brave, brave men.  Further, I'm a fan of the team having seen them many times over the years (I live 10 minutes from Brunswick Naval Air Station (now decommissioned). .

This is NOT a serious build and some will find this almost incomparable to the the Phantoms others are doing here. Hats off to them.

There are many issues with the kit as can probably be attested my many here, but I'm not going to get to into this other than the cockpit which is truly scary weird. Why not just get the Tamiya kit? Well, like I said, I just wanted to go back memory lane with this kit, though I do harbor thoughts, I'm wasting my time. Ha!

Here's a bunch of shots of the real thing. Beautiful! It was not a great Blue Angel and though tolerated, the pilots were disappointed to lose the more agile F-11 Tiger and after enough crashes they 'went back in time and selected the A-4 (a much older jet then the F-4). Why did they use it? Because the Thunderbirds did! (so the pilots told the camera in an interview I saw). I bet it was awesome to see them in formation and the sound must have been Earth shaking. I've watched the F-18 practice over my head which an interesting treat because they can't fly over the crowds in the real show. When they turn and burn it back to the airfield,  it's stunningly loud.

I'm back at the bench making buckles again.
It got a little scary at times, but I came through in the end.

The only thing I'm recovering from at the moment is my pride and some sore ribs. I hit the tarmac this morning while out riding and fell flat on my side, bruising my ribs and cutting open my left eye. Live and learn!

    Onward and upwards.

firefly7 reacted to tomprobert in To be or not to be accurate, that is the question
I’m very much a “if it looks ok from 20 paces then that’s good enough for me” type builder.

I rarely buy after-market ‘corrections’ for models and for me, life is too short to get bogged down with correcting every last detail - I just enjoy sticking bits of plastic together.

I always find it fascinating to watch some builders ‘correct’ a model to the nth degree and then paint and weather it so it bears no resemblance to the real thing whatsoever - over zealous panel shading and patchwork quilt paint effects that simply never existed on that particular aircraft. But, we all approach hobbies in our own way and that’s very much down to personal choice.

It’s also interesting to watch build threads on this and other forums where a builder starts to make adjustments and corrections to a kit and very quickly runs out of steam - it’s all too easy to get bogged down and thus the build stalls. I’m very much the same - which is why I tend to stick with what the kit provides and just enjoy it. As I said, each to their own.

Not a single one of my models can be called accurate. I started out sweating on the little inaccuracies, and found I just didn’t enjoy the hobby. Added to that, I junked models because I deemed them not accurate enough. I was constantly making comparisons between my own, and some of the modelling superstars we have here. That caused a complete lack of enjoyment.
I soon switched to a system of overlooking shape and proportion inaccuracies. If it looks like what I’m trying to build, that will do for me.

For those interested in the markings on early P-47's flying out of England in WW2, I strongly suggest you check out the instructions on Fundekal's newly released decal set (in 48th scale sadly).    Say what you wish about our former member whose name cannot be uttered on this site, but the instructions he issues with his decals are superior all others.   Lot of fascinating info for us nerds to binge on.

When I was a kid , I bought models at my LHS (Wixon's) which was a toy store but he had an entire
wall that was nothing but kits. I used to wander up and down that wall trying to decide what to spend
my very limited cash on. I could do that for an hour or more until Mr. Wixon started giving me stern looks.
I felt the pressure (remember, I was a kid). Now my stash is made up of only kits I like, so there's no
pressure regarding time or money. I just choose something that strikes my fancy at any given time.
It's obvious I will never finish them all but that doesn't bother me as I've spent a lot more money on things
I won't be taking to my grave either.

What happens if the spreadsheet is the victim of a drive crash or other catastrophe?

I've been using simple Post-it notes for at least 20 years to identify the aftermarket items that are store inside the kit boxes. I need only look at the kit box to know what it contains - all of that information is in one place.

Relevant to this thread's topic, ANYONE looking at my kit boxes has instant access to lists of exactly what's inside each box, so heirs would have an easy time selling the stuff if they should so choose to do so.

The only question posed about doing this so far has been "Won't they fall off eventually?" No. I've never had one fall off unless it was knocked off, and some of those Post-its have been in place for more than 2 decades.
