And a small pile of 1:48 stuff. Today was the first time that I ever recall buying stuff at a show, and still coming home with more cash than I left the house with.

You seem to be continuing to push your view of Germans as perfectionists who slavishly follow regulations and that’s why they lost the war, even though others have pointed out that what they did wasn’t that different than others.  As the son of a mother who was born in Germany during the war, I don’t agree with you and think you should stop before you go too far.

Hi Torben - unlikely for Telford, it certainly won't be finished by then but will be pretty close, so I will probably bring it next year Looking forward to catching up again and thanks again for doing the font for the masks for the 'Lopes Hope' nose art - though I doubt it will see any paint this side of Christmas

another step forward and in some ways another escape from the devil of modelling- transparencies... they are my nemesis and I am literally on the verge of a cardiac arrest every time I go near them on the model..

..not many WIP pics, but here is the original...

..I started by putting down a false cowling panel so all the panels around the cockpit will butt up against it and I will get a clean sequence of joins.. then added the strip that goes around the rear of the windshield where it meets the canopy windows..

..once that was down I added the top framing which was made up from strips of tape on the model and then made up in litho.. the strip was attatched with CA, but all the rest with contact adhesive very, very carefully

..the bottom of the frames around the armoured glass is really hard to get right, and I haven't but it is the best I can do - I started with some ali/tin sort of soft metal sheet I have and teased it into position before marking it out...

..and then no more WIP pics until I had all the panels down -sorry about that

..so I am relieved it is done and will now tape it up to protect it while I sort out the cowling panels..

It is important to remember that the very last batches of '262s were delivered without paint. The recipient units were expected to paint them, which resulted in wide variations.

Yeah, yeah: Everyone has head that before. "Too much detail" complaints without the realization that you only have to put what you want into it. Or "It's over engineered", or "It costs too much" and on and on.

You can bet your bottom dollar it will look like a P-51B, and everything will fit. Given HKM's track record so far, I wouldn't bet a penny on that from them.

ZM kits are certainly not for everyone, though. Some folks need over-simplified, cheap kits.

lol - hate is not what I feel towards 35th, so that was definitely the wrong word to use.

You dont have to get it.
I care about as much what others think about what I think about 35th as I actually care about 1/35th; which is very very little. And yes, 1/35th is an abomination.
You seem to care a lot about what I think about 1/35th....that's nice.
I'd suggest you put this to bed, cause dispite what you seem to think, no one  but you seems to really care. Buy all the 1/35th stuff you like.

I dont believe a single person has said they hate 1/35th or even used the word hate.
It was a highly unnecessary move by Tamiya that muddied the water, but unlike dislike,  hate takes effort and devotion.
Just because I may not like something doesnt mean I devote any time to thinking about it or dwelling on  it. AAMOF unless its brought up, I dont think about 1/35th at all really.

If Tamiya had not muddied the waters with its abomination, this question simply wouldn't arise. Everything would have been compatible with everything else, however you wanted to use it. They must feel complete idiots running their own aircraft at a different scale to the armour. Talk about shooting themselves in the foot....
Anyway, no 35th aviation scale kits will pass my threshold.... Yuk.

Pictures of the finished build of the Fokker Dr. 1 'Skeletal'. I have always wanted to build something completely from scratch.
This wasn't a 100% scratch, as I used some parts from the Roden kit, cowling and rudder from Aviattic. Photoetch from Tom's modelworks, RB Productions and Part of Poland.
It isn't perfect, but it was a great learning experience and got me a step closer to the ultimate goal of building an all scratched model.

The story so far:  I got some primer and then a home brew pale blue on the 262 flying bomb and that was that.

    Progress:

Ailerons for the He-162 were delivered in RLM82 top and bottom to the assembly plants.  Paint is Mission Models throughout.

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

I started with a modified 8-162 scheme promulgated in February 1945, my time frame for the model is a whole year later, 1946.

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

It's a combination of plain RLM82 Hellgrun on the port wing, the fuselage too.  The starboard wing and engine casing get RLM81 Braunviolet.  This scheme is often reversed in books and colour plates. I added mottling, making it up as I go along and as it's a fictitious 1946, who can tell me its wrong?

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

Back to the 262: I went for the official colour scheme on this one, it's meant to be an old (by 1946 standards) airframe.  So its late real war colours of RLM 81/82 just like the He-162.  Here I've blocked in the Hellgrun ready to mask up for the Braunviolet.

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

    And here's the masking:

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

Some considerable time later, I took the masking off the nose and some two day old paint had pulled up. My bad, I had used that useless white flexible tape from Tamiya.  I had forgotten how lousy it is!

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

But here we are with some main cammo and some mottle, applied with different airbrushes but the same mix of paints.  Main areas with the Badger Krome, the mottle with Gunze's PS-770, a super detailing airbrush.

Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr

And bang up to date, a view of the two fuselages mated together in glorious Technicolor!
